goal weight

I'm 61 and 4' 11.5".  In the 80's, I went on weigh****cher and lost 60+ lbs.  I was running 3 miles a day, 5 days a week.  I got down to my goal weight, 123 right about the time I had my gall bladder removed, but I never could stay there.  I usually was around 130.  All the weight and more came back when my hips gave out and I couldn't run anymore.
So now, at 61, with several lbs of excess skin, I figured I would set my goal at 140.  But I keep looking at you ladies who have done so well and wonder if maybe, just maybe, I can get lower than that.
My main goals are to get rid of the Cpac, off BP meds and have healthier joints so I can be more active and play more with my horses and in my garden.  I think that is possible but it would be really nice to me in a normal BMI also.

I think anything is possible! Set mini-goals and don't worry about the final number that much. Keep your food journal and stay within dietary guidelines, exercise hard (as much as possible without injuring yourself), and you will be a healthy success! No matter if you get to your "ultimate goal" or not, you will be a lot better off than where you started!

I don't see any reason why you might not be able to get down to 123 again. Even if you can't run like you were before, you're active and sounds like you can still walk a lot. I was a little nervous that I wouldn't lose, so I low carbed and walked. My goal was to lose as much as I could as fast as I could to take advantage of the honeymoon period. I got rid of the CPAP machine in about a month or maybe less. What a relief to be able to be able to breathe again! You can do this!

Price,

My surgeon's office set a goal of 80% of Excess weight loss to be successful.  I would like to lose 15-20 below that to get to an average BMI.  Mine has really slowed down, but I keep plugging away.  I am really trying to get on the exercise bandwagon.  I might have done better if I had exercised on a more regular basis.

I got rid of my CPAP after about 8 months.  I kept getting it turned down until it was on the lowest setting.  I also got rid of my diabetes medicine the day before surgery.

I'm 5'1 1/2" and my first goal is 140.  I would like to get down to 120-125 eventually.

 Hi Price,

I'd say to set your goal to something you think that you can achieve so that you feel very successful, then follow your food plan, vitamins, fluids and exercise and see where you go with it.  Don't forget to have fun along the way and enjoy the journey to better health.

I never had a CPAP so have no experience to share.

I set mine at 149 because I want to lose 100 pounds. For some reason, that's just important to me.  I actually need to be around 145 to be normal so I'll probably shoot for that.

I'll be 60 in October and I'm 5'4" unless I've grown.  :)

Thanks, everyone.  So I will leave goal at 140, be thrilled when I reach that, and keep going.  Won''t it be fun to post, 15lbs below goal.  Shoot, right now it would be great to post that I was out of surgery and doing great.

Nothing is written in stone, see what happens at 140. You may feel great and comfortable or you may want to take things a little farther if the bod is willing to part with more!

Back in the old days, I could get down to the 120's too, but now I don't think I could again!  I don't know what my goal weight is.  Maybe I should ask the doctors!  My personal goal is around 140, then go from there!

I am 60 and had the surgery last week.  So far, very good!  I was off the diabetes meds the next day and ran out of the blood pressure meds, but my BP has been normal everytime I have taken it!  My blood sugar levels are also in the normal range!!  Even with 10 pounds off, my joints are already feeling better!

I was worried about being so "old" when I had the surgery, but I knew I needed it for my health!!  So far the best decision ever!

Sue,   I felt the same way about being too old for rny.  I was 64 when I had my surgery in May,2009. I'm happy to say I've lost 126 lbs - down to 114 - I'm 5'5".  My diabetis, sleep apnea and high blood pressure are all gone.  I now have to be careful to eat enough to maintain my weight.  I have to say it's a thrill to be of normal weight.  It's the best decision I've ever made too.  Good luck on your journey!

Sharon
