I STILL break out like a teenager at times!  Its SO frustrating.

But now - they just don't heal well.  It can take 3-4 months for one to go totally away - and I'm a picker too, I know, I shouldn't, but I do.  They get cyst-like and just won't heal....

Is there a vitamin, etc that I can take that will help with the healing of skin issues?  I'm more concerned about getting them healed than I am right now about stopping other breakouts.  I have proactive and use that occasionally.  But - I was wondering if there was something I could use that would help the healing from the inside out - versus a topical treatment (which I'm open to also).

The breakouts come and go.  I thought the last episode was from a new face cream I was using, so I stopped it.  I do think it helped, but I'm still not healing.  I also changed to a mineral makeup so I wasn't using a cream, which I think may have contributed too (having bacteria in it)

Called the determatologists office and can't get in until OCTOBER 8th... I'm on the cancellation list... but I don't want to be waiting forever.

I've had a couple on my cheek now for 3 months....

I just read something on RealAge, cyst like zits is an older skin issue.  I sometimes get them and I will put an extra fine needle into it and squeeze it out.  I am sure that is the wrong thing to do, but I get tired of looking at them and just don't have the time to go to the Dermatologist every time I get one of those.

I will live each day in the mindful present

I do that too... and then they STILL don't always go away... and even if I don't pick - they tend to leave a scar.... if they decide to heal...

Yea.. as you can see getting into a Dermatologist HERE can take MONTHS....

I will ask my DD#3 because she is into skin care big time.  She also breaks out and is a picker, but her skin looks wonderful.  I'm pretty sure she uses Proactive too.  I remember her saying they changed the formula.  It used to break her out, but now it doesn't.  I will check with her for sure.

how do you feel about a medication? my mom uses accutane and it works great. also, she gets prescription face wash and moisturizer from the dermatologist. she's struggled with acne since her teenage years and this combo works great for her.

Ya know... I did the Accutane treatment in my mid 30's and it worked well, except I had EVERY side effect listed (almost).  The worst was the achy muscles - I walked like I was 90 years old...  Maybe the formula is kinder/gentler now than it was then... My son took it a few years ago and it worked well for him, he didn't have the side effects.  Do they still only let you take it for 3-4 months at a time?

I don't think its bad enough for Accutane again, but perhaps a medicated facewash/moisturizer would help.  I guess I'll see what the Dermatologist says when I see her.  Heck lately I've been using Antibacterial soap to wash my face hoping it would help....

hmmm, in that case, its not worth it. i know there are newer meds out there that are more gentle, but i'm not too familiar with them. i think the dermatologist is your best bet. sorry you have to wait until october, but hopefully there will be a cancellation.

Jody, I can only imagine how frustrating this must be.  We're not supposed to break out when we get older!

I really don't have any advice.  My skin has been a blessing forever.  I've never used soap on my face, slather it with almond oil or lotion 2x a day.  I've never used facial makeup, just a light blush along with eyeliner and mascara.  I've kept it really simple all these years because I'm so lazy.

I hope the derm.  can help.  I do have the Obagi facial products which are great, but they tend to expire before I use them.  Lazy lazy lazy!

I couldn't tell you how many times I've forked out the bucks for some special treatements and not used them...

I've always had oilier skin - and that is a blessing in some ways.  I tend not to wrinkle as earlier as some (I've been told), but that's catching up too!  I've always had to be careful with what I've used on my face.  Parts are oily, parts are dry...  For quite a long time I thought I was over this, but alas - here it is again!!

I've always used a foundation - my skin tone is very uneven, mainly because of the breakouts over the years and small scars its left over time (especially around my jaw line)....

I hope she can help too!

Lee, it's funny but I've never used anything BUT soap and water on my face and it's a clear as a bell. I also don't use makeup. I can still count on my hands the number of times in my life I have worn makeup. I don't wear any makeup at all, no eyeliner, no blush, nothing, it's all me.

The soap I use is called Pure & Natural, a bar soap and it's a plain one, no additives. Getting harder to find now.

Jody, it has to be frustrating. But check your diet, and check what you wash with, you may be sensitive to to what you are using. Called Contact Dermititis. I know I had to strip my house of most cleaners and go back to basics, and naturals because I break out with most cleaners. I have to wash my clothes in enzymne free laundry detergent. I'm allergic to regular stuff like Tide, Cheer, etc. If I wash my sheets in regular Tide, and then sleep on them, my face will break out.
