Good Morning. Dr appt today...going over labs

Just getting back and eating dinner.

The new fellow surgeon saw me. He's been doing his vitamin homework!   I think Dr Elariny put the fear of God in him. He said he didn't know anything about vitamins until he started with Dr E 2 months ago but he's been reading up. Now he's enjoying learning about them. He even took the time to explain some of the medical labs that I don't know anything about.  Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner here! I asked him if he was going to learn to do the DS too and he said they've been doing a bunch of DSes lately, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed he learns it and starts doing the DS when he opens his own practice.

I think I earned a gold star today too. As far as he was concerned everything is perfect.

That's cool that the new fellow is getting into the vitamins.

Whenever people ***** about their surgeon's not understanding the vits, I feel so lucky. My surgeon not only know about vits but he takes 50,000 IU of Vitamin D himself! (One a week or once a month? I can't remember.) Plus, he said "She's good" when I mentioned VitaLady.

I get my yearly labs done next month. I sure hope my protein is back in range!

Wish I could be a mouse in your pocket.

Big time fun.

Um, I've already been told I'm a nut case, so hearing it again doesn't scare me

You're a vitamin regimen of your own right in my medical file now. lol  He took a copy of all the stuff I take and the schedule, and we went over it in detail. At the end of the meeting he wanted it to go in my file along with the tracking spreadsheet. He loved that too and said this made it soooo much easier for him. One thing he did say, that I'm going to add to my target levels, is that 2.5 for magnesium is the first level he accepts as good for magnesium but he likes it a little bit higher. 2.5 is top of the range for my labs and I hit it for the first time ever. He explained the calcium, D, PTH relationship to me (very well I might add). Those 3 are doing better...maybe I'm adjusting to the Fossamax...CA 9.2, D 75 and PTH 43, not beautiful but better than they were last year when they went all wonky.

He also recognized that beta carotene is useless to malabsorbers and was happy I got the concept with the duodenum out of the picture. I guess BC stays on Dr E's yearly scripts for all his bands and VBG w/sleeves. I told him I was going to tweak my A to bring it down to the top of the range by taking 1 A every morning 1 more at night 3 days a week. He was glad I am taking a separate B1 and was pleased with 220 (range 87 - 280). He explained iron, ferritin and transferrin. He didn't quite use the checkbook analogy but he does seem to get that some of us want to learn what the items on the script mean and how they relate to one another.

I hope you get to meet him a at conference soon. I think he'd likely talk to you for hours.

Thank you for being on the boards and helping us with our vitamins and labs. Thank for keeping a small business afloat that caters to us with all the stress that brings. Thank you for continuing to swim up stream against the medical establishment.

Glad everything turned out well.  I just had my labs done again on Monday. I will get the results in about 2 weeks. It takes awhile since my Endocrinologist does them and she does some funky hormone tests that need to be sent out. So when all the results come back, she mails me  copy automatically.  Then I call her and we go over them..I love her system.
