Pelvic reconstruction surgery
I have no idea about this surgery or any advice, but I can tell you that I am madly in love with running now too, and my mom and several friends try to talk me out of doing it all the time. (we have quite a few runners in our family and close friends who have major knee, hip, ankle, etc. problems) It is really hard on your body, especially over time, so it would be a good idea to take a long time off after surgery before starting again. I'm sure running on a treadmill would be fine, but outside is another story.
I had a hysterectomy, bladder sling, cystocele and rectocele repair about 8 years ago. There were no limitations on my activity after the inital recovery period. At that time I was running and doing high impact aerobics. The only reason I don't run now is bum hips....spin class is better for me :)
I am on OB/GYN nurse, we see lots of ladies with extensive repair....I have never heard of such severe limitations after the inital recovery period.
I think your doc is old school. Either get a second opinion or once healed do what you feel you can handle!
Regarding pain...mine was all done vaginally. The only pain I had was a little bit of a back ache for a week or so. Was the most painless surgery I ever had! Had a nice 6 week vacation from work :)

Lori, I cannot tell you how relieved I am to read your response. I think I'll be having all done except the hysterectomy. I am glad to see that my suspicions may be true that he's just old school......
I will do what I can handle once I am fully recovered. AND I'm glad to see that pain may be minimal.
I'll keep ya'll posted...

Diana, it's time to get out your big girl panties and get it over with. I'm so glad your husband is going to be back to pamper you. Take it one day at a time and don't worry about the running until after you're healed. You'll have plenty of time to research things later. The main thing is getting everything fixed. Better to have it now while you're young and a good healer.
I'm sending hugs your way. I know you're going to pull though this and be so healthier on the other side.

I found the big girl panties...I thought I misplaced them... I am ready for tomorrow's test and I am ready for the surgery so that I can get back on the mend. You're right about getting it done now. I have tossed that conflict back and forth all afternoon and just said screw it. Why wait...ya it'll be inconvenient and may hurt a lot BUT I won't be falling out and apart in a year from now...sooooo...I'll keep ya posted...
