This morning I had three bites of cake. I don't normally dump but I have been known my heart to race and my pouch to not feel well for a matter of 10-15minutes. But this morning about 30minutes after the cake I got what I'll describe has a severe spasm. I guess that it was either my gallbladder or my pouch, could have been my pancreas. I started to sweat and the pain from that area just below my sternum was very tender. It was hard to breathe. I was nauseous and heaved but nothing came up. Okay, it subsided, I feel good, thought I'd fix me something light so I made a peach protein drink. I got about a 1/3 of it down and the whole thing started again, severe pain, neasuea, lasting about 10 minutes. There was fairly bad lasting pain this time so I don't know why but I took a pain pill, 20 minutes and the pain left and I slept. So far now I feel okay but I'm afraid to eat? What are you opinions that happened. It was severe
enough I thought about the hospital.

I haven't had a full-blown dumping episode yet.... but this seems like it fits the bill.  Some carb-dense, sugary cake.... then hell begins.

I would be kind to your pouch and just sip on some liquids today, give the poor thing a rest.

I hope you feel all better now.

Ya know - I agree with Linda.  How have you been since?  Have you just tried drinking a protein drink?

I'd say that if you can drink ok and not have issues then tomorrow try some soft mushies and see - and if it happens again, you may want to call your surgeon/dr....

Hope it doesn't continue and just your took reminding you that cake is not your friend...

I don't drink protein drinks like I used to. In fact rarely, I used to drink one every night as a dessert, but not much the past 8 months.

I've never had a pain with dumping but we all react differently.  If it happens again you might want to get it checked.

Eat soft today and maybe early tomorrow to see how you are going to do.

Roz, I wouldn't say I ever really dumped, not once. sometimes if I eat something real sweet my heart will race but that's all. The pain, just below the end of the sternum was awful. When I woke up from taking the pain pill, I felt great, good energy, took a shower, went to PT for my knee. But when I got home I was so hungry for food so I had baked some chicken breasts in the oven this AM and I had some, Cole slaw from the weekend a few TB's of peas. No problems, thank God. But that episode scared me a lot! I was thinking hospital and prayed a promise that I would call the Dr., if He would just stop the pain. I think I should write my NUT or NP. I don't look forward to that happening again.
