Never thought I'd see a size 12 again!
More than one person has remarked lately that my clothes are hanging off of me so I finally got the hint and went to Goodwill to see what I could find. I came home with a pair of size 14 DKNY jeans only to find that they were on the verge of being too big. The next day I had to go to Ross to find dress pants for my oldest son so I took a few minutes to see if I could find anything for me. I found a cute pair of size 12 Hydralic (sp?) jeans and decided to buy them, figuring I could get into them in the next month or two. When I got home I decided to try them on (I am notorious for not trying clothes on in the store) and lo and behold, they fit now! I was totally blown away.
That being said, it seems to me that clothes are sized bigger than they used to be. The last time I was this weight (173 pounds) I was probably wearing a misses size 16. Anyone else notice this too, or am I just being paranoid?

I would say that brands are much more varied now than they used to be. Some brands seem much bigger (Express, Old Navy, Target, etc) but others are smaller, which is one of the reasons it can be so frustrating to try and find clothes. Trying on clothes in a dressing room is traumatic for an overweight person, so it's pretty common for us not to try things on at the store. Congratulations on your size twelves!!!
Congratulations! Claim that 12, babee!

Yes, sizes have changed. But it may also be a body composition issue. That is to say your weight is distributed differently than it was back then. I know mine is. My hips are smaller, for example. But that can only really explain a one size difference and I'm many sizes smaller than that compared to what I was the last time I was this weight.

Big big congratulations on those size 12 jeans. You must be over the moon happy!
I think the sizes have changed dramatically. I'm in 16's now and I remember being a 16 when I graduated from high school in 1968. At that time I weighed in at 176. I think Marie is right that we are distributed differently now.

Yup - vanity sizing. I'm wearing a 4 now and am 7 lbs lighter than I was in high school. I wore a 12 then...
Yes, I'm distributed a little differently, but like Marie said, maybe it would be a size difference - not 4 or 5....
Congratulations on the size 12's!! Oh I remember how excited I was when I hit that milestone!!
