Pre-Op Lab help

I managed to get my pre-op lab work...they hadn''t gotten them at Pomp's office yet so while at Quest this morning to get dh's done, I asked about mine (had my order in hand and had been fasting JUST in case) to see where mine had gone. She looked them up and refaxed them to Pomp's office again and made me a copy as well so I have them. :)

Anyway, here is where I stand, pre-op:

Some I understand, some I don't. Liz

Your PTH, calcium and D3 aren't bad at all. You might want to start on some dry D3 and calcium citrate just to get ahead.

Iron serum is nice but your ferritin (iron stores) are busted. You might want to go ahead and start on some Vitalaldy Tender iron for that and you definitely want a head start on it.

Folate is very nice if I'm reading this right. >24. B-12 is coming in at 1360, right? That's good too.

Push to get your vitamin A tested. Unless you know you've been eating yellow/orange veggies for years. Once you're switched, yellow/orange veggies won't do you any good at all.

Thanks for the reply, Gina.

I saw the very low ferritin. Now that I know what to focus on, we can target those. Apparently I don't need to target my B12 but to just keep doing what I am doing. I know I will need to switch HOW I am getting my D3 but for now, the oil based is okay, still being pre-op.

I don't know what my A is but I will assume it needs help and just go ahead and add it to my list.

Liz,
Will you be working with the NUTs at Cornell? They are absolutely wonderful and would walk you through all this. I am sure much of the counseling could be done over the phone.
Just a suggestion...

Yes. I'll be seeing the Nut there but I wanted a head start on what was low. That's why I posted mine. :)

Hi Liz,
Some of these are totally new to me. I wish you good luck though and I'm excited for you. Diane

Diane,

Did you have pre-op labs done? And I know you are too soon out for post ops but when you get them, you should post them for review here. Liz

Hi Liz, I had pre-ops done and the only thing out of line was the iron. I got infusions in the hospital. My PCP took some labs and besides my typical cholesterol/triglycerides/HbA1c, my iron was a little low. I just had my 1-month visit with Dr. Boyce and hopefully I should receive those labs soon. I'll post. You're going to do great! I'm happy for you. Diane
