Can you explain protein goals to me?

My NUT says I should be getting 52-63 g protein (5'3" started at 242).  From reading my clinic's book that they gave me it says that as we get smaller our protein goal goes down and I will need to adjust later.  I'm confused because I read on the board that we need more protein than 63 g FOREVER.  What is your take on this?

I am 5'2" starting wt 208, now 9 months out 137ish (depends on the time of day...LOL!)  I try to get in 100 gr of protein a day. mostly from drinks.  Anything I eat with protein is a bonus.  I do know my Nut and surgeon want me to get all my protein fomr foods, but I just don't eat enough to get it in, also I want toe eat fruits and veggies, I want to eat those the most.  But that's just what I do, not saying that what you should do.

I will live each day in the mindful present

Because of the malabsorption with the RNY it is necessary to take in more protein, I've heard recommendations from 80-100 grams a day.

My nut says 60-80 grams per day, but based on research, I aim for 110-130 per day. I find that I feel better and function better when I'm over 100.

Nut thinks I'm nuts, but she doesn't argue with my success, so I keep doing it.

I was told 60 grams a day, but keep in mind that if you are trying to get your protein from food you will need to up that number because our  body doesn't absorb everything you eat.

I tried getting mine from food, but I felt like I was on Weigh****chers all over again when I had to add my totals all day long.  It also made me think about food constantly because I had to plan what I was going to eat so I could hit those totals.

Another thing I've noticed is that the people who try to get their Protein from food eat a lot bigger meals than I do. I still only eat about 2 oz. of meat plus a couple TBS. of something else at a meal while others eat 4-6 oz. of protein plus other food.

I've found that if I drink my Protein then I don't have to worry about eating protein first (although, I usually do but I don't have to) and  I don't have to add my Protein up.  I can eat a salad or fruit for a meal if I want to etc.  Any protein I get from food is just an added bonus.

I crave my Protein drinks now.  I get 100 grams in easy plus that counts for at least 1/2 of my water.  I am almost 2 years out and I have no plans of cutting back on my Protein drinks. I also still have lots of restriction left and I think thats because I eat 3 small meals with small snacks in between.
