Anxiety and Insurance Approval

Call me crazy but I am really considering being a self-pay client for VSG surgery.  My BMI is low (36) and I am having a difficult time with insurance.  I have been set up with six months of nutrition appt's that regardless of insurance I have to pay for as well and the initial consult and psych visit.  Am I crazy or just too anxious to wanna just go in as a self-pay so I can create my own time line.  They say the best things come to those who weight.  Help!!

Good Luck Mo!  I know that whatever you decide to do, it will work out.  I love my Sleeve and it's worth every bit of the effort to get it!

If it were me, I would wait to see if I got approved first, then if denied, self pay. Why put yourself in debt or use up savings if insurance will cover it? You never know, you might want something tucked or lifted after you lose all your weight, save your money for that if possible lol.

I hear that...LOL, I know I want some stuff tucked already.  It's call excess belly (consequence of C-sections).  I hate it to be honest but since I have never been a low weight I always said if the day comes I wil get it done.  Thanks for that - it's a great reason to stay on track.:)

Well, I will be crossing my fingers and wishing you nothing but good luck!!
I was just DENIED by my Insurance company (Cigna) a couple days ago, and i have already started my APPEAL PROCESS.  Self pay, is NOT an option for me.  Yeah, they give us LIGHTWEIGHTS a really hard time, i guess they want us to either be terminally ill, or already Super Obese... what about us, that are right on the borderline, and just trying to get in under control, before it gets out of hand?  It's crazy, But stick to your guns, and I hope everything works out either way (insurance or self pay).

OMG, did they disapprove you because your BMI was too low.  I would be angry if after 6 months I was denied.  I was told by the doctors office that if my starting BMI was above 40 and then after nutrition counseling it was a 37 (for example), that I would still qualify because they want you to loose weight proir to surgery.  Is that the case with you or were you just low to begin with?  Either way I do wish you the very best with the appeal.  Stay in touch:)
