Just Found You!
Hi Everyone,
I just found this board after joining another one just before my June surgery. And I'm so excited that to see that this board exists!
I, too, started off as a "lightweight" who no one thought needed the surgery. Plus, I carried my weight well and was mostly comfortable and confident in my appearance.
Yet, I knew that I was MO (had a BMI that hovered just below 40 at my highest) and needed to address this for a healthier future.
I have found that, up until the past week or so, the lbs have fallen off so quickly it was overwhelming. Now, my loss has slowed down and I'm actually grateful. Right now I'm hovering around the weight that I have been for most of my adult life. After I lose another 10 lbs, I will be smaller than I've ever been as an adult, and after I lose another 35 lbs, I'll be smaller than I was in college.
I actually do want to lose that weight, ultimately. But, for now, I'm enjoying wearing the cutest clothes in my wardrobe before I have to completely re-wardrobe, whenever that happens. I'm loving that it's so much easier to walk. My energy has returned, and I'm really happy. I totally follow my diet and exercise plans, and have not cheated even once, so far.
So here's my question: is there anyone else out there *****ally wants to lose slowly, too? I haven't seen anyone else mention it on the boards I've read, so far, but perhaps I've missed it. I have to say that I am a bit worried about what I'm going to look like at such a small size - whatever that winds up being. But don't worry, I am resolved not to let this anxiety sabotage my weight loss!
Thanks for your support!

Welcome! Glad you are here. Honestly, I have lost quickly, and I am glad. I always hear that maintaining is a lot harder to losing, so I would rather get that started. However, my head has not caught up with my body. I am a size 4 (from a 20) and I still don't see it in the mirror. I look at clothes and think they are too tiny, but they fit or are baggy. It's a journey and a learning process I guess.

I'm still pre-op. I dont really have any small clothes left, I have been this weight for years now. So the faster, the better, get to a size and be able to have a real waredrobe. Until then, it will be goodwill clothes for me.

Between 35-40 BMI? join us on the Lightweight board. the Lightweight Board
Welcome to the LW board. Its funny because when I hit a stall, I *feel* like Im a slow loser, but when I look at the numbers on paper, I realize how fast the weight is coming off. I keep telling myself this isnt a race. We will all get to that healthy finish line at our own body's pace. Look forward to watching you progress thru your journey. Cindy
Welcome, K and glad you joined us. This is the best forum of all. We don't care which surgery you have, they are ALL good or even if you are going diet alone.
My doctor is in with yours. I'm seeing Dr. Pomp just not sure when yet. We are still getting all the paperwork sorted out. Kimberly is waiting on my weight from one of my doctors before she can go forward with the insurance approval and date. My husband is also having surgery with Dr. Pomp. He's an "invisible" member of the LW board (his BMI is just under 38).
I want to lose all my weight but I want to be slow at the end so I don't lose too much. Does that make sense?

Thanks, Liz! The staff at NY Pres is pretty incredible. And I've never seen a nicer hospital, either. It's so fancy & pretty. ;)
Dr. Pomp's patients always rave about him - say that he has a great sense of humor and bedside manner while being amongst the most skilled surgeons in the world.
Good choice - guess that's why you're coming all the way up to NYC for your surgery? :)
Let me know if I can be helpful to you on the ground up here. And will I see you at any of our support groups?

Everything I've read on Dr. Pomp has been so positive. And all his current patients love him.
We are coming up on Amtrak and hopefully staying at the Tower next to the hospital but it depends on finances. Both my husband's insurance and mine have travel allowances (I would be covered twice). Since we are trying to do both ours the same week, we don't want to drive.
Kimberly mentioned us seeing Dr. Pomp and Liz on Monday for our appts and then having surgery on Thursday. That will give us a day, maybe two to do some sightseeing around NY. So unless a support group meeting happens in between, we probably won't make one.
Do you know how the chat feature works here at OH? There is a bar at the bottom of the page that tells you if you are signed in and if so, how many friends are online. If someone says something or you want to talk to someone, just click on their name and then click in the box and type.
