I know that to go through some hair loss is normal.   But my hair is coming out in fistfuls.  Fortuanatly I have a lot of it.  How long did this last for people and when did your hair grow back?

Thanks for the help.

I have a lot of hair and mine came out in mass quantity too. The massive loss lasted just about 3 weeks and now it's about 5 weeks into the hair loss and it's much, much better. I was freaking out for a couple of weeks too. I think everyone is different -- I hope your loss is short-lived!

Oh Judi,  mine is coming out in handfulls as well.  It just really started a few weeks ago and I really avoid putting my hands in my hair.  I try to only wa**** a few times a week and I'm using non-sudsing shampoo by Deva Curl to keep any chemicals out of it.  I hope it stops soon for us both.  I do remember that you have thick hair, so that's good!

Let's see... started at 1.5 week out. Stopped at 17? months out.

But I never went bald and there were only a couple of weeks in there that it was noticeable to anyone but me.

I've been wondering about this too. I haven't had any hair loss yet. I keep wondering if this is because I am losing so slowly or maybe it hasn't started yet for me. I've been taking Biotin capsuls twice a day since three months before my surgery. I'm thinking that is helping.

iron zinc, 5000 mgs   biotin , chinese hair herbs , hair nourish pills from GNC .... silica ....  U name it mine still  clogged the drain 4 a little while .

I was SO PISSED  because id  spent so much money getting the color shine  cut right LOL!!!   ( and of course my BODY too ..the last ESSENTIAL ingredient to looking great )

I had a n iron deficiency  and when i started taking a chewy iron every few days .... the hair loss slowed and then stopped .

In the meantime rogaine worked a little to control the fallout ....

My hair is DIFFERENT now ...  a little more brittle and easily broken , as are my nails  which peel too much .   But thank God its no longer coming out .

They say hair loss after  6 months post is definitely a  sign of low iron n zinc.... I found it to be true  so GET YER SUPPLEMENTS in  y'all !

My hair is falling out too. It was extremely bad a couple weeks ago, but now it's slightly better. I have read and been told Biotin is only good for the re-growth, not to stop the losing. It's really funny because I have taken it since day one and my nails are harder than ever and growing really fast, and I get 5 o'clock shadow on my legs by the end of the day.

I know several people who got great results re- growth wise using nioxin shampoo n conditioner .  It optimizes  scalp conditions for regrowth , so they say .   Hairdressers really recommend it too .

I havent tried it because i put keratin in my hair and  only certain  shampoos can be used or  it washes out .....

Hang in there, it will come back.
My surgeon warned me that by the 6 month mark, I will lose alot of hair.
But he reassured my the by the 1 year mark, it would be back.
At our last support group meeting, we had a hairdresser come in and speak to us.
She had lost over 150 pounds and lost a lot of her hair. It is coming back in.
She recommended biotin forte 3 mg a day. Showed us a product that you brush into your
hair to cammoflage the thinning. She also recommended for some who lose alot to use hair pieces or wigs to improve your self esteem.
She also said it was to important to shampoo and keep your scalp clean.
Hope this helps.
This is the only thing I am not looking forward too.

Thanks everyone.  I will try your suggestions and trust in the process.  Still not regretting the surgery.
