Be Honest...do you ever drink WITH meals/snacks?
I was curious about this.
I haven't drank with a meal since before surgery. I really haven't wanted to as well. But this morning I had a slice of protein bread with peanut butter and I would have killed for a sip or two of milk!
Yesterday I broke down and had 4 ounces of pink grapefruit juice. I am so sick of water! In any form, even when it's got some sort of "to go" powder in it. But don't get me wrong...I take my water everywhere and have it all the time except when sleeping. The juice was like heaven! I don't normally buy juice but I been craving some lately. Bottled juice is a luxury that is above my $$$....most processed food and drink are.
So what have you all had? Have you drank with meals? What are your luxury drinks you have infrequently?
I have the same problem with the need for something different to drink. Crystal light has come out with pre made orange drink, it is very strong so one bottle makes 2 to 3 drinks for me, I add water to it. I also love sobe water but it is $$, I watch for sales. I enjoy Snapple Diet peach tea...that is my very favorite.
I am looking into buying sugar free flav. syrups to make my own but haven't come up with any yet. I also enjoy my coffee, but haven't found a good protein to add that isn't clumpy, or a strong flav....ideas?

i also liek isopure banana in my chai tea but prefer the vanilla in coffee g figure
But other than that...I NEVER drink WITH my food...EVER. I don't wanna waste those wonderful food opportunities :)
BUT - as a rule, I try to waterload ahead of eating - that means drink a glass or 2 of water/crystal lite, etc before I eat. That has shown to keep the thirsties down while eating, and does work for me. I then wait afterwards.
Now - newly postops are told 30 minutes, but I've read that people on maintenance should wait 60-90 minutes afterwards to keep their pouch full longer (since we have bigger pouches by then).

I know I'm probably wrong, but sometimes when you are in an awesome restaurant it is frustrating not being able to eat more, so I deliberately sip here and there to fit more food. Granted this only happens when I'm having a very, very special meal, not a regular restaurant grub.
One of my drinking w/ meals pitfalls is also when I'm having a regular breakfast. Not being able to have coffee with my bread, sucks sometimes. The thing is whenever I try a few sips of coffee with my bread, my pouch reacts immediately, and it's an awful feeling... the same like when I've tried cereal w/ milk.
I made peace with myself that if I can follow the rules at least 70%-80% of the time and have some scapades here and there, I have better chances to succeed in the long run. Any time I went gung-ho, trying to be 100% perfect in anything in life, I inevitably stress out, get frustrated if I fail 1% and end up giving up completely. That was the story of my 456 diets. I started ultra-regimented and compliant and my first "off-the-wagon" venture cascaded in a let all go to hell attitude.

I don't ever drink after meals. I drink right up to the point that I start eating - but that is the instruction given to me by my surgeon.
Sometimes when eating a snack, such as pretzels or popcorn, I will drink some sips. That is the only time ever.
So kind of a yes/no answer, I guess!
Other than those rare occasions, I do not drink with meals. My 3 yr old daughter thinks it's weird too that I put out a glass of milk for her and Daddy for dinner, but not for myself. She's sweet, always asks me if I want a sip of hers! ;)
Oh, and as far as luxury drinks that I spend $ on, CLICK! I am a CLICK addict! It's a mocha protein drink, I buy it on Amazon and drink it every morning. http://www.drinkclick.com/ is their website. Yeah, pretty much the only "drink" I feel the NEED as my luxury.
