Be careful with the shower!  When I had my PS, I was told for the first few to make sure someone was in the room with me (they actually wanted someone in the SHOWER with me, but that just WASN'T going to happen!).

Yes, its the heat, steam, etc that can affect you.  Get lots of fluids

Yeah, I'm thinking some lukewarm showers are in my future. I will admit I spent too much time in there trying to get the tape lines off.  Right now I am just in need of some good rest though.

You do sort of feel like you've been hit by a bus! The soreness will go away. May sure you are taking deep breaths. I held a pillow when I was getting up and down and that cut down on the soreness too. We have all been there. It will get better. Welcome to the losers bench! Best of luck in your recovery. Hugs, Danielle

Cort, your post headline just cracked me up. I'm getting so nervous but I'm glad to hear how you all are doing so hopefully I won't be surprised by anything. It sounds like you are doing amazing considering you just had surgery 2 days ago. Andrea, your gas descriptions are a riot. I have already forewarned my husband about it!

I'm not the type to sugarcoat it, you will feel pretty rough after the morphine leaves your system.  Sleep can be interesting because your pain meds will get you drowsy but it only takes one wrong move to realize you did just have your digestive system rearranged.

The good news is, as ****ty as I feel... I can already tell you it is so worth it. I'm not hungry at all but occasionally see a commercial with something that looks like it would taste amazing... but the eeriest part is when I saw an Applebee's(I think that is who it was for) commercial my first thought wasn't "I'd love to go devour that!" I actually no b.s. thought "Oh my goodness, I could get at least 3 meals out of that and enjoy the flavor!" If you don't get calories in though, you will start feeling like you are going to crash. You need to have a cup constantly, last night I sipped with every commercial if I noticed myself not drinking enough.

Congrats on your surgery!!! I had terrible gas I mean it took me like a week to finally get it all out LOL On the pain med though Dr Sahagian gave me some teenie Demerol pills because I had liquid Lortab and it just torched my stomach for some reason. The demerol were like smaller than my pinky nail. My main incision was kinda caved in sorta I think like yours well what you are describing. Mine are still healing but let me tell you this fri will be my 4 week mark and I feel great. You will get there too!!! Plus we have tons of support with group, our surgeons, and Sandra

Thanks! I just got back from my 1st follow-up with Sandra and moved to full liquids so of course came home and made myself a salad dressing cup(2 tbsp) of cheddar cheese soup. The only thing bugging me is my pulse and blood pressure were being all wacky but like the medical assistant said it could very well be the narcotics they have me on for pain.  Sandra said I can take Tylenol in pill form and that there really is not much of a point in a bariatric patient taking the Zofran because basically at this point it is just our bowels we are fighting.

Overall I feel better than I expected I would from the surgery, of course I'm not ready to go do a 5k but I am walking around the house and not being a wuss either.

ETA: I'm actually down 5.4 lbs in 2 days because I was back at my starting weight on Monday before surgery.

Cort, when I had my back surgery, I had a shower bench. Maybe you need that for awhile? We are on the lookout for one for us again knowing that it will help when we have ours this fall.

Oh, and I did like the tag line for this post. Liz

My bariatric nurse is pretty blunt about not wanting us to use stuff like that, she says we need to focus on doing things normal and not sit around saying "oh, but I just had surgery". I'm 99% sure it was the steamy shower more than it was taking a shower itself. The nurse even agreed and told me that learning what does and doesn't work for me at this stage is a big step and not to think that I'll feel like this forever.

The gas in my stomach is playing peekaboo... every time I feel like I'm about to let the most atrocious gas out ever it takes off and I get a gas pain again. I'm not letting it get me down though. Thankfully I had read OH so knew some of this would happen and the price is worth paying to regain my life from the torture of obesity.
