Lifting and bending after surgery

I plan on asking my surgeon these questions, but thought that I might get feedback from others, regarding their personal experience.

How soon after surgery were you able to bend down to feed your pets? what about twisting movements? I know lifting litter boxes is a no-no, but will bending be okay?

I will the VSG done.

Use your legs when bending, crouch more - you don't want to be bending over initially after surgery.

You will want to limit the amount of twisting too - you have sutures you don't want pulled or incisions that get stretched open.

I know different surgeons have different lifting requirements.

Good idea to ask him your questions.

Thank you. I thought about the crouching, using my legs for proper body mechanics. Just trying to estimate how much help I might need. I'm starting to have some anxiety.

Your body will let you know, don't worry.  You should be able to bend down to feed the pets, twisting is o.k. I think the lifting limit is 10 lbs.  All wt. lifting and exercise restrictions were lifted on us after 3 wks.  Only exercise we were allowed to do was walk or climb stairs.  Good luck.

I find that I cant put down a full water bowl yet. So I just pour a pitcher into the bowl.
Have a big yellow lab that goes through water like crazy.
You will definitely know you limits. I can bend some, but dont pu**** yet. I can feel things pulling. So I come to a stop.
Good luck!

Thank you!! I have cats, so their water bowls are smaller, but the litter boxes are another story.

I use clumpable litter now and scoop the boxes morning and night. I have 4 cats!!! The litter itself comes in 25 lb containers, so I was thinking of getting smaller ie 10 lb boxes or putting the litter into a different container and scooping it out that way.

My doctor said I can't push, pull, or lift anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks.  SIX WEEKS!!! I have an 18 month old that still sleeps in a crip (with a stationary side)  So I'll be doing a lot of 20lb lifting 5 days post op when my hubby goes back to work... should be interesting!  Wish me luck!
