We have a lot of folks *****ad the boards every day but don't always post. I think it would be nice to know who's out there, what surgery you had or are going to have, why and when. Please tell us something special you like to do or something about yourself...anything you're comfortable sharing.

Thanks,

I'll start. MajorMom is a nickname my boys gave me when I was a Major, I'm a retired LTC with over 30 years of service.

Duodenal Switch, Aug 2007. Why DS? Because I had 6 comorbidities, I'm a grazer, not a sugar addict, don't mind taking a lot of vitamins, have no problem staying pretty much low carb for life, can't exercise due to a back disability and liked my surgeon's 80% EWL success rate of the DS (99% success rate for LWs).

Transfer addiction. Vitamins and labs but I have no medical training.

Hi Gina!  Yes, I know, I'm up early.... intention was to get on the treadmill... still may happen.

Hello everyone... I'm Jody.  I had my surgery 20 months ago and had Lap RNY.  Why did I choose this?  Because I didn't really do any research and didn't know about the DS.  Had I, I may have went that route.  From my initial meeting to surgery was a month....But anyway... I've lost 96 lbs (or so) and am struggling to maintain it.

2 kids, boy and girl - very proud of them both.  Leisure time activities are reading, riding my motorcycle (in warm weather), and being outside in the sun.  Winter time I hibernate... I live in Northern Michigan (Not the UP!) where we have 2 seasons - winter and construction....

Good Morning LW's!!

My name is Dawn, I am a small town girl from northern Indiana.  I had Lap RNY 15 months ago.  I have lost 110 pounds.     I was only offered RNY or Lap Band by my surgeon.  After my research of the two options I had, I realized I would be most successful with the RNY.  I will fight obesity for the rest of my life, I am just glad I am fighting it as a thin person now, it is much easier.

I have 2 children,  a boy and girl and I also have 2 grandchildren a boy and a girl.  We love to camp, we go most every week end, and my husband I both ride Harley's.  I have a little Sportster!
Things I struggle with right now are evening snacking and one glass of wine turning into two.  I am also very weak, I need to work on gaining strength back.  I had trouble lifting my Sportster up off of the kick stand last week.  I think my summer project will be joining the local gym and getting into some lifting.

Great post Gina, I cant wait to read what everyone has to say this evening!

Hi all.

My name is Lori.  I have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren.  I am an RN on an maternity floor.

I had a lap RNY 5/24/20.  I chose this surgery becuase my options were that or lapband.  By the time I discovered other options, I was in a time crunch with my insurance which ended 5/31/10.  So far so good!

Hi!  Im one of those that reads every single day yet hardly ever post!  So, I guess I should introduce myself!

My name is Katherine, Im 30 yrs old and Im a proud air force wife of 4 yrs now. I grew up in the military so its nothing new to me! I had RNY on 3/16/10 over at the Army base nearby which was nice cause I was able to bypass (no pun intended) tricare and all their hoops!

Im still figuring things out and what sits well with my pouch..I named it Fred..cause sometimes it gets cranky like this old guy I knew growing up!! lol. First few weeks I went through the whole "WTH did I do??" stage but Im completely happy with my decision to have the surgery!! I definetely couldnt do it without OH!! Ya'll keep me motivated!!

Have a great day!!

Hi, I'm Marilyn, and I am have gastric bypass on June 28.  I am so excited to begin my journey.

I have been married for 49 years to a wonderful and supportive man.  We have two daughters and three grandchildren.  Fortunately, we live close to all of them so we get to spend a lot of time with them.  In my spare time, I love to read, cross-stitch and travel.

I have learned so much from all of you.  I think my recuperative time will be much easier because of all your posts and tips.  Thanks for your support.

Hi. My name is Stephanie and am from Akron, Ohio.  I had RNY on 3/2/10 and am down 42 lbs.  I  haven't lost anything this past month (I think this is a true stall!) but am totally thrilled with my surgery so far.  No major complications, just trying to roll with it all.

I have 3 children, ages 9, 6 and 22 months, and a 12.5 year old 90 lb yellow lab!  They keep us very, very busy with two soccer teams, baseball and t-ball.  The little one just goes along for the ride!  I love OH and check it daily because usually someone has the same issues as me and the advice here has been great.  I especially love the LW board!

Hi all - I'm Rebecca, live in the Chicago northwest 'burbs, and has lap RNY December 2009. I've lost 74 pounds since then, along with 29 pre-op. I'm weird on this board because I don't use either weight or BMI as a goal, but rather body fat percentage because I have heavy dense bones that skew my weight, and therefore my BMI. I knew about all 4 surgeries, but felt that the RNY would be better for my combination of food addictions and comorbidities.

I've been married to a great guy for almost 32 years, we have a grown daughter who's been married almost 2 years (but fortunately NO grandchildren yet!). When we have free time, we camp and boat, usually in Wisconsin. When I have to work, I'm a school psychologist.

RNY on 04/07/09 with
Good morning Gina,

I'm Christina and I had lap RNY in April 09. Had a bumpy start with a complication but things are going great now. I'm a single gal in NYC and lately have been trying to get in a regular excersize routine. I love the LW's because they keep me accountable and offer great suuport.

Hi, good idea Gina.
My user name vhamemwindhj is the one I use at work (thought I would remember that LOL...I don't know how to change it on OH!!  Oh well...

I had lap RNY 5/4/10.  My options were band or RNY.  I am still STRUGLING with my diet, most days I get plenty of protein, but I hate the shakes and have invested a small fortune in various ones, so I have a lot on hand.  I feel obligated to make a dent in them before trying new ones.  Have been trying to EAT more protein, but I don't tolerate many meats and just sick of the whole process... I stay hunger and nauseated.  I know it will get better, so many of you have done.  And what option do I have at this point--there is no going back.  Also I gag with any of my pills now, much less more vitamins.  I am really whinning this a.m., sorry.  I am still glad I had the surg., just have to find my way.

I am a NP at the VA.  I have been married (this time) for 2 1/2 years...met on the internet.  I didn't have any children of my own, but now I have 2 lovely daughters and 6 grandchildren.  I am 59.  I LOVE duplicate bridge.

Hugs, Jane
