Can I Hang Out Here?
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to OH and would like to find a place to hang out and share support. My BMI is little higher than some here started with. I think that given that I'm a 59 year old woman, 5'4" with very small bones, that I'll end up a lightweight, or at least I'm really hoping that I do!!
I'm going through the Kaiser Richmond (Northern California) program. I've met my surgeon, had my psych consult and now need to lose the last pounds to be scheduled with the NUT and case manager. My doctor told me that it would most likely be February or March. I'll need to see when it all comes together with my work schedule.
I'm currently taking HCTZ for slightly elevated blood pressure and taking Zocor for hereditary high cholesterol. My cholesterol skyrocketed during the years I was eating raw vegan. It always goes down when I eat steaks. Go figure. My joints could use a break already with getting this weight off. I love to walk and be active but it's more difficult hauling around 100 extra pounds.
I'm scared and excited. You name it, all emotions rolled into one. I'm less frightened by the surgery as I had ankle surgery in 2008 and my gallbladder removed in November. I have a good support network of friends and attend the bi-monthly support meetings at Kaiser as well.
I think that OH is amazing! I love reading everyone's story and seeing the amazing transformation pictures. I know that in the end, we each have our own journey but the experience shared here is wonderful.
So, can I hang out here in the Lightweights with all of you?

Thanks Patti!
I read the Menus and Miles daily to see what people are eating. My program is different as they really scorn protein shakes and supplements other than vitamins. I know that ultimately I'll be the one to decide what I eat, so I'm reading now to really understand what works for others.
For me, accountability is key!

Welcome! You will love it here. My BMI was 44 and I love the lightweight board. They are all so helpful, honest and caring. I never considered myself a lightweight but I was welcomed with open arms into the fold!
I am a little over two weeks post op and feel great. Like you, I wasn't worried about surgery because I had had surgery before. And I trusted my doctor. Stick around and you'll learn so much!
