Hi Simone, I'm also new to the board but not to RNY. I spent my 42nd birthday in the hospital recovering from surgery. I had surgery on Aug. 9, 2005 in New Orleans and my birthday was the 11th. All went well except a certain Hurricane named Katrina followed by one named Rita. Other than the hurricanes it was the best thing I've ever done. At 5 1/2 months out I've lost about 65 lbs. and am off Diabetes & Hypertension meds!
It's normal to alternate between nervous and excited prior to surgery. I think that means you realize it's a life change. Also realize that the hardest part is the first few weeks and dealing with "head" hunger. I have no problems passing my carbonated drinks, fried foods and sugary desserts -- I logically know they taste good but have no desire for them. Salads are very appealing. I went through the surgery with my husband and you can't believe until you do it yourself that you just don't want those things you craved before surgery. I hope some of this puts your mind at ease.

Hi, Simone, I am new to the Board also. I don't have a surgery date scheduled yet, just starting the tests. This week I have my sleep apnea test, the psych test and meet my surgeon. I too am excited, scared, nervous, hoping, afraid to hope.... ha ha Went last night to share this with my hubbie's mom-- scared and embarrassed to 'acknowledge' to her that I am in need of help. sigh.
Have they told you anything much about what kind or brand of protein drink to try?
hugs,

HI Simone,
Just wanted to tell you that you will be fine, I had my surgery on 10-17-05 and I have lost 88 pds. I am now starting to feel great , back to my old self. Hi Simone,
I'm 46 and had my surgery on 11/30/05. I've lost 40 lbs. so far in 9 weeks. I feel great already-very normal. I had laproscopic RNY. I am ordering protein drinks from bariatriceating.com and they really help me stay healthy. My doctor likes us to start out with B-12 shots every 2 weeks as well. I am taking chewable vitamins and biotin to help keep my hair from thinning. I guess I'm saying do whatever you can to stay healthy. I still stuggle to get all my water in but I haven't had any complications. NONE. I would do this again in a hearbeat. My first week was rough, painful, tiring but every week since has been better. I went back to work at 4 weeks. I have 3 kids, all boys, ages 14, 11 and 11. Yes twins. Hope you are doing well.
