Hi, I/m MaryKate and I am 48 years old and waiting for surgery.  I want to be healthier.  I have high blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea - all from my weight.  Anyone out there with some of these issues who would like to support and encourage eachother?
Hope to hear from you

Welcome MaryKate. I am 49 and scheduled for Surgery on Oct 14th. I have Diabetes. This website has been wonderful these past few months. Many inspiring stories and what to expect.
I wish you well. Do you have a date for your surgery?
Take care,
Suzan

Hi Susan,
Thanks so much for writing back.  I do not have a date yet.  I am hoping to hear soon.  Best of luck to you as your surgery date is coming up soon.  Did it feel like you had to wait forever?  It does for me.  I am new to the website and need to get my page going.  I heard that you can pretty much count on your diabetes to go away.  Is that what you heard and is that what you are hoping for?  I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea and asthma.  I am pre-diabetic.  I am hoping that I can come off of my meds and my cpap machine.
I hope you have a great week and keep in touch.

I think the last few weeks have seemed like forever. I guess it is because there are so many emotions, things to do, planning, etc. I am so excited though for both of us. I hope you get a date soon.
Thanks so much.

I am 50 and waiting.  My first appointment was on Sept 24.  i have completed the psych eval.  I see the cardiologist tomorrow to get clearance.  I am being scoped by the gastroentrologist on Friday (as I have a history of Barrett's Esophagus). Then I get submitted for Insurance approval. I am hoping to do my RnY around the end of this month.  I have been juming through hoops to make this happen.  It seems that once you make the decision you really want to get on with it and so the time seems to be passing very slowly. I have arthritis and bad acid reflux that complicates my Barrett's.  They expect that both of these will greatly improve. I am first looking forward to not having my knee hurt and next to enjoying all aspects of life! Wishing you good luck with your venture.  We are headed towards a great future!

Hi Mary Kate!
I am also 48 yrs. old and waiting for surgery. I have submitted all of my forms and referrals and completed the psych. eval. Now I am just waiting for a nutrition appt. before I can schedule with the Doctor- then I'll have to wait for insurance approval, of course.  I hope and pray that I can have this surgery before the end of the year.

My reasons for wanting the surgery are also related to my health (sure, I want to be thin, however my health is the major motivator now). I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a very bad back (damage from years of working as a nurse combined with carrying around all of these extra pounds). I just found out from my last blood work that I am now considered to be "pre-diabetic", with an elevated fasting blood sugar and an elevated insulin level indicating insulin resistance. If I don't do this soon, I will for sure be diabetic on top of everything else.

Where are you in the process of surgery? Have you seen the Doctor yet and received insurance approval?  It sounds as if we should be having surgery at around the same time. I'm going to request you to add me to your friends list so that we can go through this together!! This site is a wealth of information and support, as you know. I'm here reading just about every day.

Hi everyone, I myself am also waiting on a surgery date.  I am 45 yrs old, retired chef, have diabetes, high blood pressure, choles., thyroid, etc.  Most of everything caused by my weight.  I have done all of the testing, pysch , and have a nut meeting next week, and I have to do a support group next week also. I hope at that point they might give me a date.

Hi Lorrie,

Have you got a date yet?  I am going in tomorrow and I am hoping to have a date then.  I can't wait.  I could spend hours looking at the before and after photos.

Keep me posted on your progress.
