Great Book!

I just read the best book. Perhaps some of you have, too. It's called "The Emotional First Aid Kit" by Cynthia L. Alexander. I found it on Amazon. It's a small book but in one compact place it has all the practical advice we need to hear on this journey. Of all the books I've read so far (and I've a library full!) this is the one I know I'll keep by my side as I approach surgery and beyond.

What's it about?  I'm looking for some good books to get me through this :)

Thanks!

Hi Crysti,

The book, which is a slim one and easy to read, is written by a psychologist and it gives the lowdown on what to expect on this journey: how to prepare before and how to keep to the straight and narrow afterward. She pulls no punches, but she also gives wonderful advice and tips that will help the patient succeed. It's become my bible and my own psychologist has began prescribing it for her other patients who are looking to have WLS done. I can't recommend it enough!

Best of luck!

The psychologist that evaluated me told me a former patient of hers recommended that book "emotional first aid" and I went out and bought it the same day. I have yet to get through it, though. I found it a dry start. And I hope you got a good deal on amazon, because I shelled out $24 at barnes and noble.

I will post a review if I am able to get through it.

I have already ordered this one and two others from Amazon (the book was definitely not $24 at Amazon although I can't remember what I paid, it was under $20), I'm just waiting for them arrive, should come next week.

Hi Rebecca!

I LOVE this book! I read it in one day and I keep it in my purse to peruse when ever I can. It's so helpful while on this WLS journey. Finally, a book that is dedicated to the emotional side of WLS.

I found mine on Amazon.com too. It was a great price there. I would happily pay more though. I've got so many books on the subject of WLS. This one is in a class of it's own.

I highly recommend it!

Thanks for sharing!

Jules
