Falling off the wagon

When I went to see the nutritionist for my two year follow-up she was aghast that I was on the Medifast diet. She said this was the sort of thing I needed to avoid because it did nothing to teach me how to eat and made me rely on artificial food.  Well, I suppose she was right. But now I'm floundering again. Last week, I gained three pounds.  And this was after starting a regular walking regimen. I walk at least 30 minutes every morning before work.  I need to concentrate more on my food consumption I guess.  And I've been getting progressively worse about drinking during meals. Gotta stop that. Also, I've been consuming a lot of caffeine.  I need to do something.  140 is the number on the scale that scares me and Wednesday it said 138. 218/208/138/110 4'11"

Hi Sheryl~ I felt compelled to reach out to you after reading your post, even though I haven't had surgery yet. Maybe its because I sensed the same kind of pain that I've so often felt as I've struggled with my eating (especially after the clinic told me I could NOT gain any more weight once I signed with them). I've had a very hard time with my food and am only just now beginning to feel as if I'm getting a grip on it. I've had to deal with a lot of emotional issues and there are a lot still to deal with.  Perhaps it would be beneficial for you to seek out a counselor with experience with bariatric issues to help you get your motivation back? It could make all the difference in the world.  I wish you all the best. Rebecca

Hi, I am still waiting to have RNY surg on Oct 1st, I am terrified of falling off the wagon after the surgery, because right now, I JUMP off the wagon! I am having a terrible time staying on a liquid diet and 1 light meal a day...this was to be a 2 week pre-op diet...UGH!

I have a history of being "let-down" when I do something big for someone...and then that person(s) are no longer a part of my life...so I decided that I would not think " I am doing this surgery for _____." I have had a real hard time wrapping my mind around WHY I am doing this, and yes, FOR WHOM pops up too.

Well, I had a thought....my Dr, has stated that this is "just a tool" to help people in the journey of WL. So, I am having a tool added to my body internally. And yours needs "sharpening."
Do you have a support group that meets around you? This may be a choice...
Remeber, it is only a tool, we wi**** were magic, but it is not. So, think about having your tool tuned up, sharpened, or just plain "cleaned and oiled".

Good Luck, and let me know how things go.

Hi Sheryl, First things first, take a deep breath.  Stop beating yourself up.  We all know that keeping the weight off was going to be challenging.  You are catching it before it gets out of hand.  Bravo!  Pat yourself on the back for at least knowing that a potential problem could be arising.  Now, remember what you were taught.  GO BACK TO BASICS.  Go on a liquid diet for one week.  Then pureed foods for one week.  This should put you back on track and take away any bad habits that you have started to form.  Start from scratch.  I'm a newbie, just had surgery Dec. 01, 2008.  Hope this helps.  We are all in this together.
