Hi Everyone: Just to let anyone who is feeling fearful about WLS: I had a gastric bypass at the age of 57 and it was the best decision of my life! I lost 93 pounds as a result of WLS. I had had several abdominal surgeries prior to having LAP roux en y bypass and I would say, the most important thing is choosing the most competent surgeon. Please do this even if you have to go to a different city to have WLS. Some out of towners stay in a hotel the night before surgery and for a few days after discharge before going home. Dr. Marina Kurian of Lenox Hill Hosp. in N.Y.C. was my very wonderful surgeon ( she did Al Roker's surgery), and she is the most excellent of the excellent! While I am a N.Y.C. resident (born and bred), I have met others who have used Dr. Kurian, who travelled to N.Y.C. to have the surgery because they wanted her as their surgeon. Don't skimp on your health. This is a serious operation but very worthwhile. Good Luck to all. Joanne
