Yet another nervous newbie...
RNY on 09/17/12
Hey, everyone!
I am pretty new to this site and just discovered this forum. I turned 30 in March, so I guess I fit in here perfectly. :)
I am preparing for my RNY in September or October. I have been approved and I just got off the phone with my surgeon's office requesting a couple of different dates. They should be getting back with me ASAP with an ACTUAL SURGERY DATE! I can't believe this is actually happening!
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and wish everyone congrats/good luck on their journeys.
Is/was anyone else scared ****less about complications during surgery? I have a great surgeon who works in a Center of Excellence, but I'm still freaking out. I know that this is the right decision for me and my family, but I am so scared of leaving my little ones behind while under the knife. :( Any stories of hope would be greatly appreciated. I just hope that I'm allowed to take my Xanax on the day of surgery!!! ;)
Peace,
Billie

Billie,
I am a newbie here as well. I just had my RNY on August 6. It is perfectly ok to be scared. I was scared as hell. My surgeon is very thourough, also works in a center of excellence and has done over 1,000 procedures and never lost a patient from the surgury. I just turned 33 less than 2 weeks before my Surgury and have 2 boys ages 7 and 4. While I trusted my surgeon and knew the odds where in my favor given my age and the fact that I had a clean bill of health I was still worried, it is perfectly natural. This is the right decision for your family because it will make you healthier and more active with them. Like I said I am just less than 2 weeks out and so far I have no regrets. Hope this helps, I will be praying for you and any questions you have please ask.

I feel the same way. I have 3 children (11, 6, and 4 yrs old) and recently got married last year. Up until then I was a single mother. Dying from some obesity linked illness never really crossed my mind, thought more along the lines of living with high blood pressure and diabetes, but the surgery itself kinda scares me. It's unlikely anything bad will happen but IF it does, my babies will be "alone" because mommy was fat & selfish to go under the knife (lol but not funny). Your thoughts??

Yes I am scared sh*tless too!! I am hoping for an October date too but I am petrified that I will die on the table. I have 3 little ones age 3, 1 and 5 months and I can't bear the thought of leaving them without a mother. But another part of me is so excited for the new life the surgery will give me
