38 and Loose Skin ???
Hello everyone, I'm new to this board and thought I'd hop over and ask you guys a question.
I am 38 years old and I am having RNY on December 30th...I have about 100 pounds to lose and am wondering how you guys did at our age with loose skin? I am not worried about it on my body in general, but the skin under my chin is loose and wonder if that will sag or bounce back? I know at our age our skin elasticity is good but can anyone tell me how they did?? Thanks so much!!

Hello, I am also 38 and I had my surgery 5/2009. I have lost about 100 pounds. I was lucky to have had jaw surgery about a year before my wls and the surgen did a little lipo under my chin so I dont have any problems there but everywhere else gravity still exists. Exercise helps but some areas just need a little more help. Everyone ages differently in diferent areas of their body so it is hard to say for certain what you will have to look forward to. There are so many changes you have to look forward to. I hope all goes well.

I hope you are doing well since your surgery. I had RNY in April of 2009. I am currently 36, but will be 37 in May of 2011. I have no regrets, at all, over having had this surgery. At my highest I was 375# and I am down to 205 (depending on the day ).
Yes, my health is my biggest concern. My heart thanks me everyday for losing that much. And the extra skin didn't bother me until the last few months. Now I wouldn't hesitate going in for surgery if I could afford too. Hey, my family, husband included, are just so happy that I lost the weight, no one cares about the extra skin. But I am only 36 and I am so proud of how much I have accomplished that now I would like to "update" the outside of me. My trouble spots are under my arms, thighs, and stomach. But my stomach wasn't only because of the extra weight. I had four really big baby boys. If I am never able to have the extra skin removed I will still live the rest of my life happy, but it would be nice.
Some of it will 'bounce" back with exercise. It tightens the muscles which in turn pulls it closer. But everyone is different. So many factors play into the equation; genetics, age, overall health, etc.
Personally, since losing 170 # I have the batwings, the flabby thighs, and a lot of excess around the middle. I can see some definition in my arms from toning my mucsles but still have the wings. I look at it as a reminder of how far I have come.
Congratulations and welcome to the "club".
