Good evening everyone,
My name is Paula. I am 30 yrs old, and live in Pennsylvania. I am a wife of 10yrs and a mother to three boys ages 14, 7, and 4. I am having gastric bypass done! I am 5'3" and weigh 264 pounds, my high is 283 pounds. I have everything done for the surgery and it has already been submitted to my insurance company, the only thing i am waiting for is the Drs. office to call me with a date. I am so excited about this. I have been heavy the majority of my life, and look forward to a new healthy me. All my supporters besides my kids and husband have stopped supporting me, they feel my weight isnt an issue if it means me not having to have surgery. I am hoping I will meet a few people on here, that can tell me what to expect, the pros and cons experianced and just some buddies i can talk to for advice (vise Versa). I look forward to meeting you all.

Hi Paula.  As a husband of someone that went through the surgery last year, I kind of understand the reversal of supporting to not supporting.  Though, it was more out of fear and ignorance than anything.  My wife went through surgery and I was there for her the entire process.  She is an outstanding woman and has done remarkably well.

Be confident in who you are and what you want to do.

One of the problems that my wife had was the communication between the doctors office and the insurance.  The doctors office wont schedule the date until the insurance company has approved it.  Contact your insurance company and find out if they received the paperwork, if not, consult with your doctor and see if they can send it again.

Good luck, and keep your spirits up!

I am new too. My surgery date is Nov. 11. At least you don't have to wait that long. I feel like I am going out of my mind! I am a teacher and needed to wait closer to a holiday. My dr. couldn't get me in this summer. I am a wife of 15yrs this month. 36yrs old 5'1' 193lbs with comorbids...high cholestoral, high blood pressure, gerd, two hernias(they will repair while in there), fibromyalgia. This is as close as it gets to a new start. Best of luck to a speedy recovery. I am hoping to find people going through the same thing so I will know if what we are experiencing is normal or not. Keep me up to date.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!  I have my last dietician visit on 10/5 which I then hope she says I can see the surgeon after that which should take about a week to get in for that visit, and then my paperwork would then get sent into the insurance company after that.  I'm hoping for a surgery date for sometime in November.  I am 5'5'' and weigh 306 lbs.  I do have some support of my family and friends, but I would love to meet others who are going through the surgery (either pre or post op) so I have buddies to check in with, chat with along our WLS journey's, ask each other questions, etc.  I look forward to meeting people as I'm completely new to this site & to these boards!!  :)

Well hello.  I am new also and have only been up here a couple of times.  I have recently gotten approval by my insurance company for the surgery.  My date is Nov 19th and excited as well as nervous.  I am 5'1" weighing 244 lbs with a husband and a 4 year old daughter.  I hope you are able to have yours in Nov as you wish.  Good thing you have friends to support you.  I have my husband, mom and dad to support me and that is enough.  I realize some "friends" will not necessarily cheer us on as we start to look as good or better than they are.  That is just human nature.  Anyway, take care and hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Paula, I am also new on here. I am starting my journey and have to go through 6 months of weight management before I can get my insurance to approve the surgery. So far things have gone well and I have all my other appointments done. I've been married 18yrs and have 4 children. My husband is very supportive but also very nervous. I wish you the best and would love to hear how it goes for you. I know that I won't be able to answer to many of your questions since your farther then I am in the journey but I can offer my friendship and will listen and support you at anytime.
