HI all,
I need help in deciding which I should choose and help will be greatly appreciated.  It seems that the doctors are shying away from the bands more and pushing the bypass.  I don't know much about the sleeve.

Hi Just thought i would tell you that Im not a doctor but I chose to have bypass. I have 3 family members get the band and saw the results and The thought of having something in my body  creeps me out :) I also have metabolical and hormonal issues that with the bypass helps thats what my doc said. but i say do what you feel and remember its a lifelong decision either way.
Hope this helps :)

I had the lap-band and swear by it.  I only had one fill and have lost 81.5 pounds in 8 months.  I have had one friend and two family members do the bypass.  My friend has had nothing but severe complications and my two family members gained all of their weight back.  It is less evasive.  You don't feel it in your body and it truly is easier to control your portions with so it is very difficult to restretch it unlike the bypass.  The weight loss is slower, but that also means it is healthier.  ultimately it is your decision.  The docs like the bypasses because they are more challenging and they get paid more for them.

best of luck in your decision.

Hi
You really need to think about what is best for you. I had a doctor that wouldn't push you towards one surgery after another. I started the program thinking I wanted the lap-band. but after going to support groups and talking to others I decided I didn't want the maintenance that came with the lap-band. Going back for fills wasn't for me. Plus I thought if I was going to have surgery I was going to go all the way. The lap-band is reversible but why would you want to do that. This is a life changing process. Think about the maintenance on the lap band and if you want this band inside your body. For some that is what works and other the bi-pass is best.
I never heard of the sleeve.
Hope this helps

Jose,

You need to do your own research and do what you feel is right for you.  Many people told me early on when I first started poking around on this board that a doc would never do a lapband because I had a BMI well over 50. That Bypass was the only was to go .
I did not like the idea of surgery that was irriversable and not adjustable. So for me the band was the perfect thing. the weight loss may be slower at times but that is the key to maintaining the loss. The other thing I noticed was many folks having a Band over bypass revision once the pouch strecthed out.  Again this was my research and the way I felt. Everyone is different.  At first i felt the idea of having something installed in me  was crazy as well but got beyond that as I can always have it removed.
WLS is s big decision do not take it lightly and if surgery is the option for you remeber this all forms are benecial and there is still work on your part to be dome none of them are a cure all.

Best of luck to you,
Mike

Bottome line...research all of them.  Whichever sounds better for you, do it!  No one can tell you which one you should do.  I had the Lap-Band 5 years ago.  I LOVE IT!  It was right "for me".  Good luck!  :-)

Research, research, research! I cant stress that enough. I have been researching all of the weightloss surgeries. For me I feel the ds(duodenal Switch) is the way to go for me because you dont have dumping, no calorie counting, no reversal,no eating and drinking at separate times. I liked it because researching it has a longterm goal for weightloss, diabetes, etc. The Sleeve they just remove a portion of the stomach and thats it has no malabsorbtion. You can eat everything you want and its not all absorbing until the latter part of the intestines.but rememger every surgery has risks. To me the sleeve and the ds didnt have too many risks.

Hi there, I know exactly how you feel, I chose the sleeve because I didn't want to have a foreign object inside of me with the chance of slippage/erosion and I didn't want the malabsorption of the bypass. I know people who have had the Lap-band and have done great, I know people who have had the bypass and are doing great, but I also know people who are not doing so great with both of those surgeries as well. I went into this thinking I was going to have to get the band because I was a self-pay, but the more research I did, the more I felt the sleeve was best for me.
You have to make this decision based on what you feel is best for you, you have to do all the legwork and research all on your own, and think about life after surgery, you have to consider the possibilities of each surgery you are considering.  I love my sleeve, and I am so happy I made the choice I made, but I did about a year of research before I came to my final decision.

Good luck on your journey to a healthier YOU!
