PRE-OP DIET

So I'm having a gastric bypass on April 13th. I was supposed to have it March 24th but it got postponed for reasons on the hospital's end. The 1st time I was suffering thru my pre -op diet and the surgeon told me that the majority of his patients are bigger than me, so if I gained weight before the surgery he could still do it.  Now since it's been postponed, I feel like I don't have it in me to do the pre-op diet again. Is it really that big of a deal? I was supposed to start it 2 days ago but I'm  in a rut. I'm not eating poorly or anything, i just haven't followed the "diet". I didn't get heavy due to overeating or lack of exercise, I'm actually quite a healthy eater. After my surgery, I know what needs to be done, but as for now, not yet having a "shrunken belly", I'm hungry!! I got heavy due to medical issues that I'm too tired to even get into...lol.  I know 2 people who got bypasses and didn't follow the pre-op diet at all, and have had successful surgeries. Don't get me wrong, I'm not eating myself sick with junk, I'm just eating when I'm hungry and making healthy choices. Am I doing wrong??

My understanding is one purpose of the diet is to shrink your liver, so when they go in it is safer.

Hi, so how did the surgery go? Did you survive the diet? I was searching for pre op diet stories b/c I am on the diest right now. It's been ok today but now that afternoon is setting in, it's getting hard! I'm hungry!!! Let me know how you are, nice chatting with you.

Hi Patricia, I'm searching for preop diet inspiration too. I started full liquids 8 days ago and lost 8 pounds. I was feeling disappointed this morning because I regained 2 pounds, and then I realized: wait a minute, on any other diet I would have been delighted to lose 6 pounds in 8 days!!!
LOL, I need to keep a sense of perspective.

I'm finding the diet tough to do since I'm so hungry most of the time. I'm eating -- well, drinking -- Carnation Instant Breakfast, low-fat evaporated milk, Swiss Miss low-sugar cocoa (sometimes with raspberry sf syrup added), cream of wheat (bo-o-oring!), and of course the usual sf jello and pudding. Whenever I can, I add a scoop of vanilla Matrix powdered protein. What are you and others eating?

HI, how are you? Yes, I am barely surviving this diet. I cheat  a little here and there but today I've been really strict. I had appts today with the surgeon and all the pre-op stuff so suddenly it has become really "real" to me. Ya know what I mean?
I have been drinking some typical protein shakes like body builders do and one thing I found that's super low in carbs are those spring sushi rolls. There isn't any raw fish in them just avocado, crab meat, carrots and they are wrapped up in a paper thin skin. It fills me up, what can I say! I'll try anything, LOL. They told me to drinks shakes and eat veggies and salads w/lo cal dressing, so I'm trying my best. I just have to stay focused on the prize. When is your surgery???

I don't have a date yet. I'm just finishing up my pre op diagnostic studies. Seeing a gastroenterologist today to schedule an upper endoscopy, which I'm scared about having.
