Hi,
I have state insurance (Medicaid) and I am almost done with my 1-year supervised diet.  I have a detailed description of what the insurance criterion is for WLS and it says that I MUST have serious co-morbid conditions in order to qualify.
And I don't have any right now.
Please help.... doesn’t anyone have any ideas??
I've already been tested for Sleep apnea and I've already done all of my lab work and I don't have high cholesterol or anything seriously wrong with me.

I DO have:
a BMI of 48,
depression,
GERD,
weight related foot pain,
some back pain

That's about it. I've heard that my insurance doesn't like to pay for this surgery, so they do whatever they can to avoid it.

I am desperate to have this surgery. I want my life back. I want to be normal again. What else can I do?
Please help me.

does it indicate at all if the requirements for a co-morbid condition are removed if your BMI is over "XX"? I know a lot of the insurances have that.

Other than that I dont know what else you could do. sorry!!

With some insurances, your co-morbities are waved if your BMI is over 50.

Good luck.

What is your cholesterol right now? I was borderline high cholesterol for some years until 2008 when I officially got high (and qualified for surgery). My doctors have always told me that what I eat 2 weeks prior to labs can impact my #'s... so it may not hurt to re-test after you eat up.

That might put the weight on though, so that's a negative side effect, but IMHO worth it if you qualify. Best of luck to you!

Honey,

GERD is a comorbid condition. It worked for me at least.
Praying for a healthy and thinner 2009.

Have you had ANY problems with your blood pressure or blood sugar? Both of mine are high but not high enough to be diagnosed with Diabetes or Hypertension so my doc put in the letter to my insurance that my BP is high and that I have Glucose Intolerance. Along with my Hypothyroidism those were enough to get my through the approval process.
