I've been through my educational class and my nutrition class but I'm still undecided which I really want to do.  Lap Band or RNY.

Visit the RNY board and the Lap Band board and ask questions there.  This is a very personal decision.  Talk to your surgeon about the pros and cons of each. I originally started down this road committed to teh Lap Band procedure, but after My research and knowing how I am and how much weight I want to lose, etc. etc. (and talking to my surgeon), my surgeon and I decided that RNY would be a better choice for me. That's what I'm doing.  There's lots of books and information out there too.  Read and ask questions. Good luck to you! Denise

I too am in agony over deciding which one is best for me.  Initially I thought the Lapband.  The Dr's. recommend the RNY for me, but it still scares me.  They will do the Lapband if that's what I choose.  They have only seen a loss of 60 pounds with the band at their center.  I have a lot more than 60 to lose.  It's a big decision.  I'm going to support groups to try to sort it out.  Good luck to you.

I also found this decision to be difficult.  I was leaning towards the lap band but after my initial consultation with the surgeon, I was convinced the RNY was the right choice.  The surgeon told me with the amount of weight I had to lose-122 lbs-and my comorbidities that I would see the best and fastest results from RNY.  The lap band causes a very slow weight loss and I was looking for quick.  I'm a little over four months post op and have lost 79lbs.  I'm almost there and couldn't be happier!  Good luck to you!

I just wanted to make sure you know about another option. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/ If you are interested in knowing more then by all means go to the board and ask any questions about the DS. I had originally wanted either the LapBand or RnY, but at the information meeting my surgeon mentioned the DS. I went to the board and started asking questions. After looking at the long term weight loss and talking to my surgeon, I decided that the DS makes sense for me. I wish you luck during the process. Steph

I  was dead set against the bypass and only wanted the band. I went to my first surgeon who  said either would be fine. The next infromation session i went to i took a friend and we both walked out with the thought that  for me the bypass was better. so monday i had RNY .  It is personal and you should look at all aspects, your medical condition, your stay power, complication rates, amount of weight you want to lose.  not that other should make the decision for you but chat or talk to people who had both procedure say 1,3, and 5 yrs ago and see what they are saying and how it has changed their life for both better or worse. 2 years ago if you told me i would have had rny i would have told you to get your head examined.
