I think that depression and just total hatred of my body is a huge reason I want to get the lap band surgery.   In additiion to the health benefits of course.  Can anyone speak to depression?

My best advice to you would be to seek therapy during the whole process.  I went until the therapist gave me the options of just coming when I needed it.  I had some rough spells but good now!  Each person has their own experience but with therapy you will make it thru! Best to you on your journey!   Hugs!

I can say that since the weight loss I don't feel as hopeless or miserable anymore.  I started out at 557lbs the day of surgery which was 1/22/08 and as of 5/11/08 I'm now 379lbs, down 178lbs---I can do so much more than ever before and my energy level is through the roof---I know that since surgery I don't feel like I'm imprisoned in my own flesh---I feel and act more happy now---hope this helps.. ~Angie!

I was diagnosed with Clinical Depression and Bipolar Disorder at the age of 17.  I am currently 38 years old and had gastric bypass surgery on 4-15-08.  Since my surgery I have lost 58 pounds.  I cannot begin to express to you the wonders weight loss had worked when it comes to my depression and low self-esteem.  I am rarely depressed anymore, and I think alot of it has to do with the fact that I've learned to like myself more and feel good about who I am.  Those feelings started even before I had the surgery, because I knew that if I learned to accept myself for who I am before the surgery, it would be much easier to do so after WLS.  It does get better.  Hang in there.
