Newbie with date- HORRAY!!

I have a date!! Feb 4th 2008... I am a medical professional & now that I am the patient, I am very nervous!!!!!! In NY, Dr. Artuso is my surgeon.... I have great faith in him... Any words of wisdom?? thanks! -Mishi

Welcome to the 30's board & congratulations on your surgery date! How wonderful & exciting. I've only heard to bring your own pillow, chapstick, and a back scratcher to the hospital. I have not experienced this part of the journey yet, but that's what I hear. Best wishes!

Awwww thank you. I am going through so many emotions right now. I've been trying to talk myself out of this decison for the past 2 days.

How is your emotional state holding up?

Do you have an angel? I need one myself and I'm trying to figure out how to get one.

I woke up this am at 3 am!!! I couldn't sleep.. My mom who is here to help (she lives in Iowa) heard me & got up.. she asked if I was nervous... My eyes welled up with tears... of course I'm nervous... I'm not afraid of death- no, I have no regretswith my life... I am afraid of complications and the possiblitity that it won't work.... I know I'm being silly- but probably normal reactions... I don't have an angel either... I would like one. I will look into how you obtain one!! :) It sounds like if your date is set, you've been through the circus of MD appt's, evals, and tests... Your surgeon thinks your ready- but you are the only one who can decide for sure... It is probably the biggest decision we ever make!! My friend had it done & she has no regrets... She has nearly reversed all of her health problems... It's a tough decision...  Do keep in touch... mahalo- Michelle

I am sooo sorry M, You have every right to be nervous, but you also have to trust that God wouldn't bring you to this season and then abandon you.

A friend from another board (the place were we are having our surgeries have their own forums) and I started a surgery calendar and I am adding you so I can lift you up in prayer.

And you are not being silly.  Everyone is going through this.  I know I am.  I told you, I keep trying to talk myself out of this and say I'll try diet and exerecise one more time.  But I know it won't work, so I am very anxious for March 6th to get here and over with.

I want an angel.  Why don't you go to your state board to see if you can get an angel http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/NY/a,messageboard/board_id ,4836/  I have my PAT'S (pre-admission testing) on Valentine's Day so I am gearing for a ton of stuff with that and appointments with my hematologist and vacular surgeon which all are March 3rd....3 days before my surgery....I will be sick of doctors, hospitals and needles before March ends lol I'm gonna PM you after this. Congrats on your date! I remember that part of the journey well!! :) Be good to you. Enjoy. Follow your surgeon's directions. For the hospital...chapstick is an AWESOME suggestion :) I also brought a short, loose robe, pretty undies, a smelly candle (not to light, just to sniff and ward off hospital smell,) iPod and magazines. Remember to walk an walk some more :) Even if it is uncomfy or a tad painful...the benefits are marvelous! Get some sleep and call on us whenever you need to :)
