Ok I gotta ask I am almost two weeks post op an the last two days have been really hard. I am so hungery I just want to eat something. I am still on an all liquid diet until wednesday. Then I get to go to puree's. My husband is worried I did this for nothing and that I will go back to my old eating habits. Is it normal to start wanting food again. I mean heck I haven't eaten anything real in three weeks. Please tell me I am not gonna be a failure. He seems to think that I should never be hungry again. This isn't so. Carnation instant breakfast, isopure water, chicken btoth, sf jello, sf pudding are really getting old. I want a some mashed potatoes, or steamed carrots, a piece of meat cut really small. something. Please enlighten me.

I didn't have the RNY, but I think it's normal.  It's almost like your body's signal to say you are ready to start soft foods. I had the same thing happen to be with the DS...I didn't have to go on a liquid diet, but I did have to stay on a soft diet for 4 weeks.  By the end of week 3 I was dying for some real food.  If you haven't been there already, please go to the RNY forum.  The women on that forum are extremely supportive of eachother.  They will be able to help you through the beginning stages of this journey. As for your husband, you should probably have a heart to heart with him, and ask him to visit these forums.  Unlike Alcoholics, who have groups to support their families...and teach them how to cope with an ex foodie.....there is no such group for family members of the obese.  My wife also acted slightly like the food police, and does to this day (sometimes).  It's difficult for them to understand what we are going through, what we are feeling, and such...but coming to OH he can read for himself what others are going through, and see that it is "normal" for you to want real food.  Scott

Gosh I really wish I could offer you some really good advice but I can't as I am pre-op. But, I can understand the wanting of something you shouldn't have. All I can say is remember why you did this surgery? Your new pouch needs time to heal so try to stick it out just a few more days.  Best of luck. My thoughts are with you.

Yes, it is normal. I have heard some say it is more head hunger than actual hunger, and for some they aren't hungery for months out. Not me though. :)  I feel for you. I am 9 weeks out and I was SO over liquids/pureed foods and wanted something with substance. I kept seeing commercials for pizza and Arby's and other things. I LOVED Arby's the best I think and after seeing a few commercials, I dreamt about it! I know, pretty sad huh. So yes, tell your husband it is very normal and does not in ANY way shape or form mean you are going to fail. It's hard being on a liquid diet. I know your pouch is small, but liquid goes through it fairly quickly. I tell you what I did when I was on the pureed stage, I wanted to chew something SO badly I took a bite of an enchilda and chewed it up and spit it out. :) I know, it sounds gross, BUT it actually helped with that desire to chew. I also chew gum. Every doc is different and they are woried about excess gas if you chew gum, but I checked with my dietician and she said as long as its SF I can try it and if it gave me excess bloating or gas, not to do it anymore. I didn't have any problems with it and it really helped with the need to chew. Just a few ideas. Hang in there, it gets better, I promise!! If you have any questions about what I ate or anything else, please don't hesitate to write. We are all on this together. Good luck!!

For me it was about wanting  a different taste in my mouth and a different texture more than hunger. I think what you are experiencing in completely normal. What I would do is sit down and analyze what I was feeling. Is is true hunger where your body is craving nutrition, or is it the idea of eating?

I count myself fortunant for not feeling true hunger this entire time thus far. My surger was July 26th and I have yet to feel a hunger pain.

Try different flavors of what you can have to change up what your putting in. I've been through every flavor of crystal light known to man because having the variety was really important. The sunrise orange made me feel like I was having something sweet, while the raspberry lemmonaide is so refreshing. Look for any way to get more variety to keep your pallet satisfied.

Just a few more days now til you have the pureed stuff. You're doing a great job hon, keep up the good work!
