To those of you out there with your approvals on hand, and to those of you who have had this surgery already....how did you manage to get through all the WAITING?????? I have had all of my consults.....and now am waiting on my pcp to gather my info, and fax it to the surgeon.  She is the hold up right now.....saying on this past friday that she might take a week.. oh no better make it two...to get the info.  Everything in my file is great....and I feel that but for one thing I should get approved......That being the dreaded 6month diet.  I have been going to my pcp for 5 years but never did a 6month consecutive weigh in with her.  So I have started that process with my new pcp.....but i am thinking worst case senario they make me wait 6 months.  If that happens I may not make it......I feel so worn out from this already How did you guys do it??  I cant wait to start a new life.  And thats exactly how I view this.....a NEW LIFE.    HELP ME!!!!!!! your new friend susan

I won't kid you - the waiting is hellish! BUT you can make it better...take care of you. Read, write, research, talk to people, plan, and be good to you. That should keep you busy :) Use the time to get your mind in order, so your body will follow after you're on the loser's bench :)

Welcome!  The waiting game is never fun and seems more like years than months. I have one more wee****il my last visit for structured weight loss plan for insurance. Then they will submitt my info for insurance (yet again another wait). I have been so focused on losing weight before hand that this has taken my time. I try to keep really busy and have try to make a huge effort to go to the gym more. Being busy has really helped me. I have also looked at this waiting game as an opportunity to get things in order before the surgery. I want to make things as easy for my husband and son as possible.

In the beginning I just wanted to get this over and begin the new chapter of my life much like you.

Oh, and this website has certainly occupied alot of my time.

Keep busy and I wish you the best as you continue to waiting. You are not alone!!

God Bless, Angela

The waiting is hard, but I agree that keeping busy helps.  It will go by before you know it.

Oh yes, I know what you mean! I've researched WLS for 5 years about - go****'s realistically probably even been longer, oh well. I made a personal decision this past June to move forward - and STOP - employer excluded WLS from health insurance. Yep, no room to appeal. ugh...is this happening...crappy reality when you're ready to get healthy and lose the fat once & for all that's for sure.

But what I found was people on OH kept saying "just stay plugged in", "keep doing your research", "keep asking questions"...and they were right. I have learned so much and I even went ahead and started therapy to deal with some depression issues that rear their ugly head every once in a while, which the therapist actually applauded me for because she said it will only help with my approval for WLS down the road.

So, I sit and wait to change insurance plans in January.

I attend coffee groups that MN OH'ers gather every other weekend to have, I talk to one WLS person each day (either via phone/email/or PM here on OH), but I make it a goal to connect with at least one person who has had WLS so that I keep the mindset. I've made changes like cutting out soda, limiting sugar intake, etc. and I want to keep on that path for success after my WLS.

Just keep swimming...as Dori would say in 'Finding Nemo'! Enjoy your journey!
