I know it has been awhile since I have posted over here, but I "stopped" by today just to see what was going on and there are a lot of new faces (or avitars in my case).  I thought I would say hello to everyone.  I haven't been on the boards much, but I will try to frequent more often.  I am awaiting approval (or denail) status from insurance and then off I go. And I also wanted to say, hey Peggy you look AWESOME.  I looked at your profile (yes, snooping) and WOW!!!  Congrats on your 1 year post op....you are most definaterly rock'n your RNY.  Keep up the great work.  Loved the tubing pics that is one of our kids' favorite things to do.

Hi back!  I checked out your profile (also snooping.... ha ha) and I see you are also awaiting for approval or denial from Highmark BCBS.  I actually just got denied from them last week for, of course, the DS being investigational.  I am waiting for a peer review to be set up and then if that doesn't work, an appeal.  I have actually been planning my appeal for months.  I'm not sure if all Highmark policies are the same, but does yours cover the DS?  How long ago did you send off for approval?  It took about 3 weeks for me to hear back from them.  Good luck to you!!!

Mandy, I just got word that I am approved!!!!  I am not sure how as I was ready for the big fight, but I am very thankful that I am not going to have to go down that road.  Mind you, I do not have the official letter from them, but I am sure the surgeon's office has the approval number for future reference.  I am excited, nervous, and everything else in between.  It was 5 days from submission to approval.  Good luck with your peer review (I have heard several people who have received approval at that point with Highmark).  Keep us posted.

Congratulations!  Wow... that was fast!  5 days?  Does your policy pay for the DS?  How exciting for you.  How long do you thin****il you will be having your surgery?  I know all policies are different, but did you also have to do the 6 month diet and 5 year history of MO?

Someone once told me that in my appeal if I could prove they have paid for the surgery before for someone else, the would have to approve it for me.  Could you be my example?  I have other names and dates of approval for BCBS, but its for BCBS of Minnesota.  Having a Highmark example would really help me.

Get ready for quite a ride!!!  Hopefully I will be right behind you!
