Hi, my name is Stephanie. I'm 33, 5'4", 225. And i will be having surgery on the 23rd of August in Hickory, NC. I go for pre-op on the 9th, and think i'm ready for this, but would like any comments/help or advice anyone would like to share with me. I've done a lot of research and studying all this, plus my mom and some of my freinds have had it. I will be having laparoscopic RNY with Dr. Monty Cox. Anyone know him?? Well, i have read lots of your posts lately, and have gleaned a lot from them. Thanks!

Hi Stephanie, I had RNY on Monday AM.  I was pretty scared but it was over before I knew it and I was up and walking that night.  I felt 100 times better when I got up and walking, so my advice would be to get moving quickly.  The worst pain was from the gas they inflated me with, and walking helped my body absorb it.

Hi, and thanks for your comments. I think i am more afraid of the ABG than the surgery. I have to have it done at pre-op next Thursday. Take care of yourself and i wish you a speedy recovery and a great new life!

Congrats on your up and coming surgery!! Keep reading and asking questions. I know I was (and still are not) ever satiated with enough info. The suggestion to move is right on! It might hurt, but you will be happy you moved :) The gas is killer after surgery. Sip your water and stay on track. Follow the docs orders and be good to you :) It is major surgery and your bod and your mind will need lots of healthy attention. Please call on us should you need anything :) Even just a sounding board.

Hi Peggy and thanks for your encouragement. I checked out your profile and wow, what a difference! You look so different. Congrats on the weightloss. I think i am more terrified about the ABG that i will have to have done at pre-op next Thursday than i am the surgery! Do alot of doctors do that? I don't think all of them do. It's probably a good idea to though, huh? Well, thanks again for the comments. Enjoy your new life!

I *think* I had it done pre-op...must not have been too bad :) Hang tight. All the work before hand is well worth it :) :)

Hi, Stephanie! I has Lap RNY 12 days ago and was quite nervous.  I've had 2 previous surgeries and never felt that nervous.  Maybe it was because I have a young son at home and my husband is thousands of miles away.  But after I came out of it, I was surprised at "normal" I felt.  I was up and moving in now time.  I was pleasantly surprised and relieved.  Make sure you are organized and have everything you need when you are home and follow your doctor's orders to a "T." Best of luck to you! J.

Hi Stephanie & welcome! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I am pre-op so cannot offer "expert" advice, but the thing we hear in MN all the time is Walk, Walk, Walk and Sip, Sip, Sip. Walk to get the gas moving after surgery (otherwise it can be painful even up into your chest) and Sip to continue getting in all your water and liquids for the day. Best wishes to you on your journey!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I visited your profile and left my comments there too. I hope you will be able to take steps toward the surgery soon. I am getting excited about mine. I noticed you are 32, I'm 33 so we're very close. I have 2 girls, 14 and 11. I am from NC and we hear the same advice so it must be something i need to take to heart. I had pre-op on last Thursday and started my 10 day liquid diet yesterday. So i'm counting them down. Thanks again for your well wishes. Take care!
