WAS WONDERING ABOUT SAGGY SKIN
Hi, my name is Shirley, I usually post on the main board, but I am 30, and I am going to have surgery 8/8. I am 5'9, large framed and weigh 286. I was wondering if any one around my height/weight/frame after WLS, how much PLASTIC's do we actually need? I went to the OH Convention here in Las Vegas, met Dr. Katzen, but did not get the chance to speak with him. Does our skin bounce back at all after 30? My DH is like, "yeah, you will need the full body lift, boob/tigh/butt implants, the whole nine. Which, coming from him, as supportive as he is, OK, I am not trying to go for PLAY BOY, so that was no comforting! Then I got worried, what if I do need the whole PS package PLUS* ? If someone has any answers, I need some insight... I need to know well ahead of time if I will be getting the NEW HOUSE or the NEW BODY,lol.. Thanks, I really appreciate it. Shirley, Las Vegas

Shirley-
It depends on which surgery that you have. Because Lap Band has slower loss than Bypass, there tends to be less sagging. Exercise helps. Muscle under skill helps the skill a bit. Taking biotin supplements helps skin as does mosturizer w/ vitamin e and collegan. Omega 3 in supplements or through eating fish also help. I'm 32 and 5'9. As I'm losing, I think skin will be a problem on my stomach and arms. Check out the OH plastic surgery page. -Jenn C in AZ

Hi,
I am a little older but here is what I have had done. I am 38, 5'7", I started out at 288 and still have a large frame (I think) and I never really got to goal but lost 115 lbs. I had a bl/ba, tummy and inner thighs done. I dont think my arms are too bad so I can deal with it compared to what the scars would have looked like. Sure, if I had the money I would have a few littles things done but as of right now I feel great and am very happy at where I am at. That is just to give you an idea.
Talk to you later,
Dana
I had my surgery in january so i am not far out enough to say.I have lost 86 pounds and i do see some trouble spots upper inner thigh and arms.the arms is not that bad since I seem to be the only one that notice.I was just asked yesterday by a coworker what i was doing because my arms looked firm unlike some other patients they have seen post op.Oh i work in a dr office ob/gyn though.but when i read the boards its more so the person some bounce back some dont but exercise helps some.
Hi Shirley! At one of our group meetings last week (in MN), a bariatric nurse was there and she did mention that she has seen where WLS patients turn to plastics a little too early. She suggests waiting at least 2 years before even making a decision. She did say your skin will shrink down some, not all of course, but some. And if you take pictures every 3 - 6 months, you should continue seeing a difference in how the skin is shrinking. She did say if you have PS too early, you can experience over-stretching afterwards. The OH plastics board is good too, there are lots of people on there who share their photo sites and info regarding their PS.
Best of luck to you on your WLS journey! Glad you're on the 30's board.
Thanks, you girls are very helpful, if you read the main board today I had a crappy day about the insurance!! I will get approved tho!!! Thanks for the advice!!! Dana, I will talk to you later, can not wait to hang out, it will be fun!!
