Do you find yourself getting angry a lot?
Have you found yourself getting frustrated and angry at people a lot more frequently after the surgery?
I have been experiencing this a lot recently. Before when people said some thing mean to me or talked down at me I would shut up and walk away, then I would eat a burger or two to deal with the stress and anger.
Now since food is not the escape I can run to, I have to actually deal with the anger and frustration.
How do you deal with this?
You know i see this on a lot of boards...this same issue. Regardless of the weight loss surgery, it seems people become more "snippy" after surgery.
I have a personal opinion, I think it's for several reasons:
1) losing weight rapidly dumps a lot of extra hormones in to your blood stream, estrogen is stored in fat, lose the fat and get an extra dose of estrogen floating around. My wife has told me it's like i have PMS all the time..lol.
2) At one time you might have accepted a certain behavior because you were fat and felt you deserved to be treated however people wanted to treat you
3) Your "true" personality arises. Sometimes when your overweight you become very introverted. As you lose weight your true personality comes out.
4) related to 3...as your true personality comes out, it can be very difficult for people to adjust to that causing a lot of tension and stress in a relationship

I'd have to say yes to both. I've been frustrated and very angry towards people for about the last three months. I've been in counseling for the past three as well and it has helped me so so much! I've also found that anger is something that triggers my eating and I reach for the "crap".
How to deal with it~
1)counseling...helps big time!!
2)in order to quit reaching out to food to help soothe myself I have a food journal in my kitchen 2)I have index cards and a bin that I put them in after I fill them out....whenever I want to eat "crap" I write down on the card what I want to eat..how many calories it has in it..what I'm feeling...and if I'm hungry or not? I tell you what I have found..I'm an emotional eater especially when it comes to being angry...I have found that since I've been using the cards..I total them up at the end of the week and I've saved myself hundreds of calories!!
