New here (post-op)
Hi everyone!
I was so excited to have found a room of 20-somethings! I had Vertical Gastric Sleeve WLS on April 21st (2 weeks today) and have been posting ont he VSG forum but have had so many issues that I think would better be answered here. I took a look and already some of my concerns have been addressed.
I have a question about alcohol... I read a previous post and I know that for teh most part, if I am going to drink, I need to be very careful as it hits harder then before etc.. My question is, I am only 2 weeks post-op and my friends are going out for cinco de mayo today... I just want to sip a glass of wine. I know it's probably not THE BEST decision but I really just want to and wanted to know if anyone had a drink so soon post-op.
Again, I'm really happy to have found this forum and if anyone has any questions who is pre-op, im happy to share!

I havent had my surgery yet so I cannot speak personally... but my best friend had it and about a 6 months after her and I went out. She had a few lil sips of a drink and was completely BLITZED! She had a hard time at first finding what she could and couldnt drink without getting sick or dumping because of all the sugar.
I would call the Drs office and ask them. See what they have to say. They may not *like* the idea but at least they can tell you if its a definate no-no.
I had my first drink about 6 weeks post op. This was after my Dr. told me "I know you're young and you'll want to drink over the holidays, just be careful". But this was 6 weeks out. I'd say its really not a good idea. Right after surgery I went out for Halloween and drank water all night long. The first time I drank was a glass of red wine at Thanksgiving. I only drank about half my glass and ended up drunk. The problem is, the hangover hits you so much sooner. I was drunk and hungover in the same 5 hour time span. It was not cool. Drink water, it will still be fun. That's just my advice.
BTW, I'm a 24, female.
I haven't drank since surgery because alcohol has so many calories I don't want to consume them. But my doctor told me at my three month check up it was okay to have a glass of wine now and then or a drink if I wanted too. He said just try it at home first to make sure you don't dump. Especially with mixed drinks because the mixes are full of sugar.
Sorry about the late response.
