6 month diet
Hello everyone,
Yep, almost two years and feeling better than I did in High School.
I started at a all time high around 525lb and the day of surgery weighed in at 397 with a BMI o****
Two years later, 3 surgeries and 6 tranfussions with 19 units of blood...2 times on the door step to the other side.....
I'm down to 187 lbs with 17% body fat.
I now fit into 29x34 levis Pre surgery I was in a 64 waist and a 6xlt shirt..My shirt size is now a small.
With all that said....I'm sorry I waited so long to do this....I would do it again no matter what!!!!!!
I actually struggle to keep weight on. If I'm not careful I drop 5-8 lbs in a week ( I don't have it to loose!)
Lots of people ask me how they can have the success that I have been blessed with and My advice is to not be so carb concious but that dosen't mean chips, and junk, more fruit and natural carbs like veggies, in season fruits. I still eat a limited diet, not much red meat, NO REFINED SUGAR! A Little Alcohol, NO SODA! Slurppies are OK!
I do not eat things like Hot dogs or to many processed foods. I try my best to eat things in their natural state, Like shrimp, chicken, some fish, My thoughts are that we now spend so much less on groceries why not buy that much better foods like shrimp, crab and so on.
I am so happy to be a bariartic patient and feel bless to have another chance at LIFE
Thanks for listening
Shawn
I didn't have to do a documented diet like that, but to get ready for the surgery I cut out fast food and junk food. I lost about 15 pounds in 3 months without trying very hard. Maybe you've already eliminated those things, but what I'm saying is eliminate things that you know are bad and you're still eating. For me skipping fast food forced me to make healthier meals at home. The difference in scales is common. Don't get discouraged.
Best wishes, Amy
Don't get so down hearted over half a pound... it is just a number that can fluctuate for many reasons. You could be wearing the 1/2 a pound in clothing. Just continue to make healthier choices. Don't beat yourself up over such a small number. Besides I have heard a lot of back and forth on the supervised diet thing. I have not heard ANYBODY denied due to a fluxuation in weight durring this period (by the way, I can't spell to save my life and this thingy doesn't have spell check so forgive any weird spellings ) But don't beat yourself up. You are doing the right things, just keep at them.
Hi,
I am just finishing up my six month required diet. At my last apt. I asked if there was a certian number of pounds I needed to lose for insurance purposes and they said no. The main point of the whole 6 month diet is so that the insurance company can be sure that you are commited to having surgery. My surgeon's office told me that they have had quite a few people gain weight on their pre op 6 months and still get approved by insurance. She said that the most important this is that you log your food. I have been using myfooddiary.com and it is great. All I do at the end of every month is print out the pages and take it along with me.
All in all, I wouldn't worry about 1 or 2 pounds. It is mostly the effort that counts. Good luck!
