Opinions, please be honest and tell me yours!
I just wanted to get a quick opinion from the 20s age group on when you introduced things back into your diet. I have read lots of controversial things on this site and I am not trying to start anything, I am just plain curious.
1. After surgery, when did you have your first alcoholic beverage?
2. After surgery, when did you have your first piece of full sugar candy?
3. After surgery, when did you have your first diet soda? And did you continue to drink them?
4. After surgery, when you noticed yourself starting some bad habits, like trying bread or chips, what did you do?
5. Did you on occassion eat things you shouldn't have and still lose the weight?
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight?
Thanks,
Carla
1. After surgery, when did you have your first alcoholic beverage?
two months
2. After surgery, when did you have your first piece of full sugar candy?
probably had a small piece within a month or two. six months out now and i eat plenty of candy with no ill effects.
3. After surgery, when did you have your first diet soda? And did you continue to drink them?
i don't usually drink diet soda. regular soda upon the occasion. i think i waited 4 months to try one and i don't often finish a 12 oz. can when i start one, the bubbles in soda often trigger gurgling so i hardly drink soda now.
4. After surgery, when you noticed yourself starting some bad habits, like trying bread or chips, what did you do?
bread isn't be in small doses, there's some with quite a bit of protein. at any one sitting, i eat a half a sandwhich though. not five slices. chips are a weakness. i can eat too many of these...
5. Did you on occassion eat things you shouldn't have and still lose the weight?
yes because i'm in the "honeymoon" phase.
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight?
i'm not sure i understand the question. i think you mean to ask, did eating treats stall my weight loss? and i don't really know, because i don't weigh every day or week, just monthly or less.
1. After surgery, when did you have your first alcoholic beverage?
I was about 5 months post-op. I had one alcoholic beverage (light on the alcohol) without any ill effects. It hit me fast and was gone just as fast. I got drunk at about 7 months out and that hit me HARD within 5 drinks (also light on the alcohol.) That didn't go away so fast.... I have to admit though, it was a blast getting drunk on $13 worth of drinks!
2. After surgery, when did you have your first piece of full sugar candy?
Again, at about 5 months. Didn't have any ill effects, but I haven't really had any problems with any foods, so take that with as grain of salt.....
3. After surgery, when did you have your first diet soda? And did you continue to drink them?
I bought three 12 pks of diet caffeine free soda about two weeks ago and drank them just as I did before surgery, without any ill effects (that I know of..... there's still a debate about what soda does to the new pouch.) That scared me, so I'm not drinking carbonated drinks any longer.
4. After surgery, when you noticed yourself starting some bad habits, like trying bread or chips, what did you do?
Bread..... mmmmmm....... Yeah, please stay as far away from breads as possible. They are no good in any way. I've had bread since my surgery, and I'm desperately trying to keep them out of my life. It's hard, but I believe, absolutely neccesary.
5. Did you on occassion eat things you shouldn't have and still lose the weight?
Well yeah, you can't fit much in, so there are times when that will happen, but it's not good to even begin eating things you shouldn't because later down the road, when your stomach is a more normal size, you'll remember how you ate those bad thing and still lost the weight, but it won't happen now and you don't want to pick up any bad habits at that point in the process.
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight?
Well I don't imaging thinking about them will put the pounds on, but if not careful, that very well could start putting the weight back on ya. Not wise to even have on occassion. Can an alcoholic have a drink every once in a while? A drug addict a hit of cocaine every now and then? Nope. We have to keep our bodies clean and healthy from the breads and sugars of the food world. We have to think of food as an addiction, but it's 10x more difficult to deal with than any drug or alcohol addiction, because we can't completely rid food from our lives. That's why these forums are such an amazing supportive system to have access to. Everyone is dealing with the same thing and knows best of all how to help you through the hard times and the cravings......
I hope this helps in some small way.....
Cheers!

1. After surgery, when did you have your first alcoholic beverage? 3 months and it burned BAD.. I wouldnt suggest until after 6 months
2. After surgery, when did you have your first piece of full sugar candy? NEVER you can buy sugar free candy .. but sugar can make you REALLY sick after surgery
3. After surgery, when did you have your first diet soda? And did you continue to drink them? 3 weeks but it wasnt good .. so I waited until maybe 2 months or so and now I drink them all the time maybe like 3-8 oz every other day
4. After surgery, when you noticed yourself starting some bad habits, like trying bread or chips, what did you do? I havnet eaten chips really and i dont really eat bread either bread makes me get a VERY icky feeling if i eat too much.. You will have to see how you do.. (whole GRAINS ONLY for me )
5. Did you on occassion eat things you shouldn't have and still lose the weight? I have followed the south beach diet almost religiously .. so only good carbs and Im down 110 pounds .. I would highly suggest it ... I have had a few times where i have eaten bad stuff but usually you get an icky feeling ... so go VERY easy.. i have also noticed that if you just take two bites one for the initial taste and one just to make sure .. it usually satisfies me .. I try only to get like 3 whole wheat crackers at a time NEVER sit down with the box ...
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight? I have lost very well so i dont have that problem really.. I watch closely .. in fact im going to go get something right now ..
Hope this helps email me any time if you have anymore questions I am VERY open to discussion .. and Im not a nazi about it like some people can be .. Also its very personal as far as what you can tolerate ... I can eat chicken all day but some people want to die when they do... Good luck!
1. After surgery, when did you have your first alcoholic beverage? Hmm. I was 20 when I had my surgery. I guess my first alcoholic drink was that fall(november) for my birthday. I dont think I tried anything much before that. I had my surgery in May. I might have had a sip or two in the summer.
Straight alcohol BURNS. I can't do straight alcohol shots anymore. I feel like my stomach is on fire. Now, I usually mix my own drinks before I go out(made with sugar free juices) At the bar, I'll try to drink things without heavy mixes or juices, or take them in low doses. Im pretty good at telling when things arent good.
2. After surgery, when did you have your first piece of full sugar candy? I have no idea.
3. After surgery, when did you have your first diet soda? And did you continue to drink them? No clue. I waited a *LONG* time. Before my surgery I was a big diet coke fan or diet soda in general. Since my surgery(2 years in May) I've had maybe a 6 pack worth of a soda, maybe 12 if I wanted to stretch it. I do allow myself occasional sips of friends soda or mine if I haven't had it in awhile but in general I have taken it out of my diet. I use to enjoy it so much that I'm afraid I would be out of control with it if I allowed it back.
4. After surgery, when you noticed yourself starting some bad habits, like trying bread or chips, what did you do? Again, probably not until the fall with bread. I *LOVE* bread. On a daily basis, I've taken a lot of bread out of my diet. If I do make a sandwich(on rare occasion) I'll use wheat bread. I use tortillas for wraps instead. I do have pizza and bagels a few times a month. Usually it's just half of toasted bagel or more of me taking the sauce/cheese off of a pizza and eating that. I'm not a big chip person. My weakness is pretzels. If I do go with chips, it's baked lays or low fat/fat free snacks.
5. Did you on occassion eat things you shouldn't have and still lose the weight? Yes. I fell into that trap. In the last few months, I am consciously trying to tame in my bad habits.
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight? I still want treats. I'm not exactly sure. I dont have big issues with sugar, that scares me. I cant eat a TON but I can eat candy and cake/icing. I have more issues with sugar when it comes to ice cream/dairy products. I'm almost 2 years out and really testing my limits. I have this fear that my stomach has been stretched, so I'm kind of retraining myself.

yes.... chips, dips, etc.
6. Did wating treats on occassion make you not lose the weight?
nah... it is cominf off slower now but part of the reason we have surg is to eat like a "normal person"... well normal people eat this type of food too.... anything is ok in moderation if you are someone who cannot eat things in moderation then it is better to stay away.
