HI Everyone, I was wondering....my hair is still thinning and I am looking into taking Biotin. But I was wondering how much do we need to take? Right now I'm taking 1,000 mcg's. And I heard that we are supposed to be taking 5,000 mcg's. Which one is correct and how much do I take? Thanks for your time and concern on this. -Tifani

My doctor told me not to bother to just get in my protein.

I supplement with a Hair Skin and Nails pill forumla, in addition to using my multi-vitamin and calcium. I get mine from CVS, but I know you can buy the same thing basically anywhere. (Online, GNC, Walmart, etc.) http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/detail?deptid=2&prodid=898122&deptid=2&previousURI=/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/department?deptid=2 That's the kind of thing you'd want to look for. You take 3 per day (of that brand). As for just plain supplementing with Biotin only, I heard that 3000 mcg is the daily dose. (Although I think you would split that up throughout the day, like with the one listed above.) Good luck! Amanda in Akron (Ohio)

Hi Tifani! My nut told me to take 1500 mcgs and spread them out. I have 1000 mcg tablets and take 1000 in the am and 500 (half a tablet) at night, I probably should do 500 three times a day but I already take morning and night pills so its just easier for me this way. Also, my nut told me that its not necessarily from a lack of protein its just from losing weight so fast (I do pretty well with my protein and my hair is still falling out). I have only been taking the biotin for a few weeks though, and not too much of a difference yet...I figure it will take a little while since our hair and nails grow slowly anyway. Good luck! Gen

Hi Gen, Well as far as my protein goes....I do get more than the recommended amount in. My doctor did blood work for me and checked all of my levels for everything and he told me that i'm doing very well on getting my protein in. He said that I'm getting in more than my recommended daily amount. Sooo, it you ask me.....I think that it's the weight-loss side effect and the stress of the surgery. And not to mention that I did have hernia repair surgery in February...so that may have something to do with it also. Well thanks for your advice and good luck on everything! -Tifani

I take 3000 mcg's since October, and it has done nothing for me, it's just getting worse. I agree, work more on the protein.
