9 DAYS POST OP!
Hello everyone. I am officially 9 days post op. It's so different stroking those keys on this key board!!!!! I have lost 18 pounds. I am knocking on wood for this! I have not thrown up, not been nauseous, had a disagreement with food (yet), I have been up and allll around town feeling normal again since the surgery and I haven't had any problems yet!!!! The only thing is I think im allergic to the steri strips on my tummy and it itches and has raised bumps... Itchy so bad!!!!
Anyways I didn't know how addicted to food I was until after this surgery, until after I cant have it!!! I walk out of my house and I can smell the restaurants! For real. I never "smelled" them before. I have been dying to eat a hamburger! And I cant wait until that day! I will be sad that I cant have some of the same stuff as I use to have. But that's ok and im willing to accept that in order to make me a healthier person!
Im kinda getting tired of this liquid phase.
I have struggled with getting all my protein in. I guess that would be my down fall. I know that's an important part of this new lifestyle and I know I have to get those shakes down!
I have my first post-op check up today. The dr is so funny. I love him.
So I am doing very very well, better than what I had anticipated. I still have a little tenderness in my tummy
Cheryl,
Congrats on your surgery!! I felt the same as you after mine. I was never sick and never had any aversions to food. After getting back on regular food I slowly tried everything I used to eat and I tolerated all of it well. I was also terrible at getting all my protein in. I don't think I have gotten the full amount of protein in more than probably 5 times in the past year. I know that isn't good for me, but I'm doing okay and that's all that matters. I hope your appointment goes okay today. Having a good surgeon is really half the battle with this thing. You have to have someone you feel comfortable with, so it's good you like him.
Again, congrats and welcome!!

Well, I had to be on the liquid, semi-liquid stuff for a whole month! I ate a lot of applesauce, yogurt, pudding, popcicles. Oh, and I bought a lot of baby food!! I couldn't hack the meat or mixed stuff, but I did eat the different fruity types. I really liked the stuff that had bananas in it. I tried to drink protein drinks but had a hard time with the taste. I tried to drink a lot of milk and double milk (milk with dry-powder milk mixed in) for protein. I would lick peanut butter from a spoon a few times a day. I did like the sugar-free carnation instant breakfast drink. I could only get it in chocolate here and I would make it with like 1% milk and then do the double milk thing too. That would give me a good healthy dose of protein first thing in the morning. A few times I would blend food, but that just didn't appeal to me either. I ate a lot of tomato soup or chicken noodle soup broth. Toward the end I started eating things that were solid but soft like a hard boiled egg I would chew up really small or tuna, sometimes sliced cheese like kraft singles.
The main thing is to follow your surgeons recommendations. He should have given you a list of "safe" foods. If not, call and ask the nurse for suggestions.
How are you feeling today? How was your appointment?

Congrats! I am jealous of all of you that never got sick post-op. I threw up so much I actually tore a stomach muscle - it hurt with every breath I took for weeks. Anyway, just a word of advice - be sure to get lots of WATER in between meals! That is what made me so sick! And welcome to the losing side!
