encouragement please!
Hello,
well here is the scoop. I have to do the 6 month diet deal for my insurance to approve me. I am really bummed and trying not to turn to food as my comfort. 6 months seems so far away. i know it will go by fast but I want it now! lol... I am trying to stay positive about this because I have to do this and I might as well just suck it up but its hard. I guess I just need a little support and encouragement. Thanks
Maris,
I must do a six month diet for my insurance too. I am lucky and my surgeon's office is conducting the monthly weigh in's and diet instructions. I just had my 3 month weigh in today. I have lost 10 lbs. It is going by pretty fast for me. I am using it as a way to help prepare for surgery. I am exercising, eating much slower and practicing getting in my 72oz of water. I am keeping detailed food logs which is a good thing to send in for insurance approval. I use myfooddiary.com It costs $9 a month, but it is worth it if you have to keep a food diary. It lets you print off detailed info about what you eat every day.
Just look at this as a way to get your body in the best possible shape for surgery. The better shape you are in, the quicker the recovery! Good Luck

Maris-
While I didn't have to do a 6 month diet pre-op, I did have a good 3+ months from the time I got approved until the time I had surgery. I ended up gaining a bit of weight, instead of losing like I had hoped to do! One piece of advice that may help is that the more weight you lose now, the less weight you'll have to lose as a post-op! I'm 5 weeks post-op, and I find myself thinking "if I had lost X lbs before surgery, I'd be in a smaller size now/looking better/feeling better, etc"
6 months does seem very far away. However, this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Keep up the fight! I'll save a seat for you on the loser's bench!
Hi Maris, 6 months will fly by in no time. My insurance didn't make me do the 6 month diet, but my surgeon's office did. They make everyone go through a 6-month "Pathway" program where you do all the normal tests and evals, etc and on top of all those things, they require you to attend weekly nutrition classes for about 8 weeks. It is a lot of stuff to do, but at least I was able to spread it out over that 6 month period of time. They just wanted to make sure I was commited to making this happen and that I thought it out.
The best advice I can give for passing the time is educate yourself by reading as many profiles as you can and researching wls. If you ever need to talk or vent or whatever, you can always email me and I'll be more than happy to offer up some encouragement for ya! Just don't give up. You are doing this for YOU and you will be more healthy at the end of the 6 months so your surgery will go more smoothly and your recovery will be faster. Just think of it that way.
