Ok so I'm on this six month program designed by my insurance, it involves going to classes monthly about GBS and a sixth moth diet at this place called Lite Weighs. We are required to lose 10 lbs. before the sixth months is up. I'm about four months into the program and have gained 6 lbs I'll be the first to admit I haven't been trying all that hard. But I have made some significant changes in my diet. I only drink diet soda now and tea with sweet n low. Before I was drinking up to 3 cans of regular soda a day or sometimes tea with LOTS of sugar in it. But I'd say my portion sizes are about the same maybe a little bit less. But I tend to think more about what I eat. The end of my classes are coming so quickly. I woke up this morning and decided it's time to get serious about losing the 16 lbs and whatever else I can in the two to three months I have before surgery. But I need help!!!! It's so hard for me...How did all you guys lose weight before surgery??? Any suggestions on my eating habits or if I should add some exercise? I don't really have acess or funds to join a gym....but I do have a treadmill. Any support or suggestions would sure help!!! Thanks

i would suggest adding walking up to 45 min. a day at least 5 times a week. if you can't do it straightaway, try a 15 min. walk in the morning and a 15 min. walk in the evening. it has been said that soda is an appetite stimulant. i'm not a doc. so i'm not sure if that's true but maybe you want to try cutting them out alltogether? i lost 25 lbs. by cutting out all sources of processed white flour (bread, crackers, hot dog buns) and wheat flour (though i later added the wheat back into my diet), corn, potatoes and sugar. it was hard to do for the first two weeks but since i didn't have portions to control (i ate as much as i wanted to) i was able to stick with the diet for several months. i looked at my plate, divided that in half and filled it with veggies, took the other half and loaded it with half protein and half good carbs like yams or sweet potatoes. i was insulin-resistant (which is also weightloss resistant) and this diet actually worked for me. i had usually a protein shake in the am with maybe a hardboiled egg or string cheese. the egg and cheese were often my snacks throughout the day too. my nutritionist said i should eat a little something every 2-4 hours so i wouldn't get ravenous and make desparate bad food decisions. hope these tips help! -kari

Kari- Oooh, good tips! I love all that stuff, but I instinctively go to carbs. I think I'll just remove them from my panty altogether and stuff that freezer with veggies. Thanks! Jenn

My doctor had me follow South Beach. I was able to loose 13 lbs. I had 10 to loose too and had gained 3 before I got down to business. Good luck to you hon, and If you really want it... you will find a way! Have faith! Hugs, Chrissy

I cut out fast food. My husband and I still went out to eat every week or so, but no fast food. I also cut out all the junk food at home. You'd be amazed how much you can lose with little changes like that. Plus everything you do before the surgery helps you afterwards. I lost 20 pounds before surgery doing the above. I didn't even have to, but I wanted to get my mind set for post-op. I would suggest exercising. If you have a treadmill at home then use it. Start a few minutes a day, and add a couple each day. Best wishes, Amy
