In the beginning you have to sip but eventually you can take regular drinks don't think you will ever be able to chug it again. But I'm four months out and can drink regular drinks of water and it's not hard at all to get my water in because that's all I drink besides my protein drinks. Hope this helps. tina

it's true that when you're 2 weeks or less out from surgery you'll be taking little sips. but after about 2-3 weeks i was taking regular swigs of liquids. i didn't often chug water before surgery and i haven't tried chugging anything since, but my guess would be that i wouldn't like it. so i try to stay hydrated with lots of swigs rather than wait to quench an unbearable thirst. something to note, i'm less parched during exercise now that i'm 50 lbs. lighter but i work to make sure i'm hydrated. -kari

Chugging was the hardest thing for me to stop doing. Now I can take big sips, but chugging would be a big no no.
