HEY I'M ASHLEIGH,, I NORMALY POST ON THE LOUISIANA BOARD, BUT SOMETIMES WERE A LIL SLOW ON THERE AND SAW A 20'S MESSAGEBOARD SO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO SEE HOW IT WAS ON THIS BOARD,, ALOT OF THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE I HAVE MET ON THE OTHER BOARD ARE A LIL OLDER SO ITS HARD FOR THEM TO UNDERSTAND WHERE I AM COMMING FROM,, I AM 22YRS OLD, AND MOST WOULD SAY ALOT MORE MATURE THAN MY AGE. I STRUGGLED FOR SOO LONG TO TRY TO GET THIS SURGERY DONE AND AFTER FINDING A DOCTOR AND GETTING STARTED WITH HIM,, HURRICANE KATRINA STRUCK AND THE DOCTOR MOVED TO TEXAS SO I WAS BASICALLY SCREWED , SO MY LONG JOURNEY TO FIND A NEW DOCTOR WAS ON. I FINALLY FOUND ONE IN CONVINGTON,LA,,, WHICH IS ONLY ABOUT A HOUR FROM ME,, HE'S A AWESOME DOCTOR AND SINCE I ALREADY HAD MY **** TOGETHER I WAS ABLE TO SUMMIT TO INSURANCE,, SO I SUMMITED MY STUFF TODAY,, I AM HOPING TO HAVE MY SURGERY IN FEB,, ACTUALLY THE FIRST WEEKEND.. I AM IN SCHOOL TO BE A PARAMEDIC SO THATS THE ONLY BREAK I HAVE. I'M ALREADY A EMT BUT I CAN'T WORK B/C I'M TOO OVERWEIGHT AND I WOULD HAVE TO SHARE THE OXYGEN WITH THE PATIENT.!!!!! I DO HAVE A AMAZING ,WONDERFUL GIRLFRIEND IN THE WORLD!! WE HAVE BEEN TALKING FOR LIKE A YEAR AND BEEN TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 8MTHS,, SHE'S EVERYTHING I'VE ALWAYS WANTED IN A PERSON. I AM WORRIED SHE MAY LEAVE ME AFTER THE SURGERY, B/C SHE MAKES JOKES ABOUT IT NOW, SAYING I AM GOING TO LEAVE HER WHEN I GET SKINNY,,, WHICH IS THE SOO WRONG,, SO I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS GONE THROUGH THAT. ALSO IF ANYONE IN LOUISIANA?

Hello Ashleigh, WELCOME to the 20's board. It's slow around here too. I'm having surgery in Feb. too! How long is your break from school? Is it enough time for you to recover? I have heard/read that it's really important to give yourself the proper amount of time to heal. I believe its something like 6 weeks, not sure. Well good luck to you on your weightloss journey sounds like you've had a few detours/bumps but doing fine. Take care Elisa

Welcome! My husband is also worried that I'll change after the surgery. I think deep down he knows I'm not going anywhere, but for the first time in our relationship I'll weigh less than him. Assure your girlfriend that you may change, you may get new clothes, but you're not going anywhere. Good luck on getting your surgery approved. I go in for mine tomorrow, and I'm so exicted. Amy

Hey girl! I'm from Boston, and will be having my surgery up there. However, I'm a grad student at LSU and I live with my fiance in Baton Rouge! Keep in touch! Jennie

hey ashleigh. i'm really sorry your surgery got postponed for so long. i know how that feels. i've been trying to get mine done for about 2 years now. my date is the 23rd of this month. in 3 days!!! my girlfriend makes the same jokes too. we've been together for a little over 2 years. even though you don't know how it's going to be along the way, at least she'll be there to watch you change, it won't be like all of a sudden, you know? hopefully you'll stick together, if that's the way you both want it to be. take care! ~liz

hey ashleigh, i wish i could post on this subject from my own experience but i'm currently single so i have no idea how my rapid weight loss would affect a romantic relationship. but i think the above poster is correct in that the process will not be an immediate switch from fat->skinny (though it'll be quicker than normal) so your girlfriend will have a chance to get used to the new you. however, i have read a lot of journals from folks on this board and it is true that the dynamics within a relationship do change after the results of WLS. consider this, i used to be a couch potato and now i'm walking/jogging 3 miles a day. i am also much more aware of the calorie/fat content of fast food and am making better food choices for myself. if i were dating someone who only wanted to stay in, eat chips & junk food and watch tv all the time, we'd have less and less in common. just as people change and grow and need to work hard to stay together outside of WLS, you need to work on the lifestyle changes from WLS together too. don't fear the changes this surgery will bring to you, embrace them and start a healthier life for yourself and keep up the communication with your partner so you're both in it together. you never know, you may inspire her to better health too! good luck!
