Well I have my date. It is all set up and it cant come fast enough. I am just wondering how us young people take off the weight. If it seems like it is alittle easier than what an older person would? Just want to hear your storys. I am 315 and I am 5 5. Let me know. Just want to know what to look forward to.. thanks Hugs brandi

Brandi, I'm 3 months out and I've lost 42 lbs.! I don't weigh myself at home (only at the doctor's) so I'm not charting my weekly weight loss but I encourage you to read the profiles of people on this board because many people do. For sure, the recovery is quicker with us younger patients, my dad didn't want to even look at food the first 6 weeks after his surgery and I couldn't wait to try stuff. So far, so good. I've not had any major complications and most days I forget I've even had surgery. Except for the baggy clothes, I feel totally normal! -Kari Starting height/weight = 5'4" @ 242 lbs. As of today = 5'4" @ 200 lbs.

Brandi, Hi! I think that normally younger people heal a little better then older patients. However that also depends on your health. Take this as your chance to change your habits and make a healthy life. Make your goals attainable and go for it. Excercise is Vital and eating right. So many of us get on the "free ride" thought because your going to just loose during your window of oppurtunity. However we have the rest of our lives to live so I think we have to adapt healthy ways so we don't gain the weight back down the road. Good luck and work hard! Michelle 339/198/190 goal

Hey Brandi! Congrats on your date. You are SOOO lucky to be having your surgery after the holidays! That way, you won't be tempted by all the bad holiday treats. I think that younger people have a faster or better working metabolism than older people so we tend to lose faster. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it sounds right, lol. Either way, you will be fine if you stick to what your doctor tells you to do and exercise when he gives you the ok to start, that way you can't fail. I started out at 297, 5'4" and had my sugery in August, now I weigh 225 so I've lost 72 pounds in like 4 months! I feel fantstic! Remember: follow Drs orders, take all your vitamins, get in all your protein, and exercise and you will do great! Can't wait for you to join us on the loser's bench. -Lynn Lap RNY 8-16-05 297/225/140
