Becky,
Thanks for writing me back. The reason i wanted to get lap band instead of the RNY is because the risks are lower. I heard the death rate is really high for RNY like 3/200 or higher. I didnt like that. I have 2 children and didnt want to take any chances. Since you had the surgery what did the doctor's tell you about the risks? Is the risk of death lower for some people or is it the same for everyone? I hope to hear from you soon. I also wanted to say congrats on your weight loss it's amazing!!!
HI. I just wanted to know if the lap band was as good as the RNY. Some people said you dont lose as much weight. I'm thinking of getting it done instead of the RNY because it has a lower risk of death. How is it going for you? Did you have trouble getting it approved by your insurance? I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
i had lap RYN on oct. 10, 2005. i've been doing/feeling really well! i'm down over 30 lbs. (not exactly sure because i don't weight at home) and eating almost everything. just not as much as i did before, of course.
the thing that helped me decide the best was attending a symposium given by my doctors and checking out a few sessions of peer-mentoring. ask around, you might find one in your area. that was the best source of information for me, getting to talk to/hear from people in various stages of the surgery, some just had it, others were 3+ years out. and everyone said they'd do it again, no matter what.
Hey,
Well..... as a bandster... I deffinitly LOVE my band.
Im 6 months out.... and 108 lbs down. Im loving it... completly and totally.
I started at 367 and im at 259 as of... 5 minutes ago. Lets not even BEGIN to talk about the 6 pack that I just discovered...(Plastics HURRY!)
I was wearing 32's and now im a 14/16 on top and 18/20 on the bottom.
Now, had I not done my part would it have worked? Never in a million years.
It does work though....like everything else... if you work with it, it will work...
