26 yrs old, to have wls before or after children
hi my name is RAchel and i'm looking into wls, well i have for the past 5 yrs but didn't have insurance. i'm now married going on 2 yrs and have a daughter who is 15 mos old. i want at least 1 more child maybe 2 not sure but since i'm 26 now i just don't know if i should go for the surgury and give myself that 15-24 mos time to heal and then try to have another child. or go for the child now. my preg was far from easy being 316lbs and i would imagine being maybe 150 would be far easier carrying a child, but i'm thinking the downfalls of being post op and pregant not being able to eat what you crave OR gaining wt back again, that would be tragic. i could handle maybe 25 lbs tops but no more than that. also what is the nurtrition like for having a child post op i know it can be done, but how good is it for you and the baby.
i just think i'm missing out on my 20's and if i blink they will be gone not to say 30 is awful but just once i want to look 20some not 34 or so because of looking more mature since i'm fat. i have anthem bcbs ppo and when i've called they said they don't cover it that the policy my husbands work has thru them dosn't cover any kind of wls procedure But i heard that if a doctor says its medically nessary that they have to. So why didn't my insurance lady just tell me that instead of flat out no we won't cover it. So even if i do go thru this how do i go about it getting it charged as medically nessary. Is it up to my family dr or does he have to refer me to a surgeon and he states its nessary or will my insurance even pay for his visit to the surgeon if they won't cover wls just to ask questions. anyone that can offer advice or help would be wonderful. you can email me at [email protected] i rarely remember to come back and look at my mesg board. thanks RAchel
Hi Rachel. I think that this is a decision that only you can make. First of all do you mind your kids being several years apart? I think that becomes a factor for some women. On the other hand there are so many reasons to have the surgery first. One, you will be healthier. My OBGYN told me that I would be doing my child a favor by having surgery first. Once you are a year or more post op you will be able to eat enough to nurish your baby. Your body will be in much better shape for carrying a child and delivering one. You and your baby will be at a lower risk for lots of pregnacy complications. And to me the most important reason of all....you will feel so much better after losing the extra weight. As you know kids can keep you hopping and being a smaller size makes all the difference in the world. If I was making the decision for myself I would choose the surgery first and kid second. Good luck in your journey!
