Hi All, I'm planning on going shopping in the next few days/weeks to pick up items that I will need after surgery. Are they any must have items? I'm taking ideas for food and non-food items. Thanks for your help Kimmie

Hi Kimmie Well here is what I got and worked for me: Non Food Items for the Hospital: Toothbrush Toothpaste Shampoo Soap Robe Slippers Clean undies CHAP STICK ( I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH ) your lips will be DRY! Comphy Clothes ( something that wont rub your incisions Slip On Shoes Food Items: Protein Powder Water Crystal Light SF Jello SF Popsicles ( I recommend POPSICLE brand, It's the best! ) Boost Breeze NSA CIB 1% or Skim Milk ( soy if your lactose intolerant ) B12 Suppliment Childrens Chewable w/ Iron Gas-X Liquid Immodium Colace or some kind of stool softner Gauze and Tape I never really needed anything else like magazines or a back scratcher or anything like that. You will either sleep, watch tv or walk in the Hospital, so no need for anything else Some people say to take a fan, but I never needed one. Unless you sweat to begin with I wouldn't bother. Make sure you have an extra bag or box for flowers and stuffed animals when you leave the Hospital. Good Luck I hope this helps!!! Erin

Boost Breeze will be at walmart or your local grocery store in with the nutritional drinks and bars. NSA CIB is No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast. That will be in with the Oatmeal. Anythng else just let me know! Erin

besides the protein powder/drinks (which i suggest you only get a few of because after WLS your tastes change - stuff i bought before surgery i couldn't stand after) i suggest: 1. a heating pad for the gas pains in your tummy. 2. gas-x for the gas (omigod, there's so much gas!) 3. flinstones vitamins (or whatever your doc suggests) 4. sugar-free popcicles for when you're dying to chew on something! 5. a 8 ounce sippy cup from rubbermaid to help you get in your liquids 6. rent a bunch of movies/tv shows on dvd or whatever to entertain yourself as you recover. 7. sugar-free juice and filtered water for that first week. good luck!

Hi Kimmie, Everything they have listed is great.... I would also bring a pillow from home... I have a feather pillow and cannot sleep on the synthetic stuff... it was a great help... also it was helpful to cushion the bumps on the car ride home! Also, at the hospital ask the nurses for some of those extra pill cups... they are about 1-2 oz and will help you measure... which is the key to your surgery! Good luck!
