Hi my name is Nikki and I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I'm 21 years old with no job or insurance! I'm fairly new to this site, although I am a member of the Lite and Hope site ( Carnie Wilson). I'm hoping to have Gastric Bypass surgery.. but my problem is that I'm currently unemployed with only County Insurance. And if anyone knows, County insurance doesn't pay for much at all. My question is that you guys are in your 20s and have awesome insurance.. what kind of jobs do you all have? What am I doing wrong here? lol ! I'm extremely frusrated not finding work or having insurance that will help me with the surgery. I'm trying hard to get into school as well. Just wondering if someone can tell me what they do for a living or what companies do have insurance to cover the surgery. Thanks ~nikki~

nikki, well, i left my job recently to move to another state so right now i'm paying for my own insurance from blue cross ($250/month) and working temp jobs. my surgery cost me my $1500 deductible and another $1250 co-pay. it's expensive but not as costly as paying for my whole surgery and definately worth it. i'm 2 weeks out and 16 lbs. slimmer. -kari

Thanks for replying to my question! 1500 and 1200 isnt bad compared to these self pay places.. by the time your done paying for the surgery.. you might as well dig a hole and jump in lol. Thanks though! good luck ~nikki~

HEY HEY HEY!!!! I lived in Milwaukee for 5 years (college) at MSOE. I LOVE that city and hope to move back one of these days. I moved up to Minneapolis, MN after college. I am a structural engineer. You dont have to have an awesome job to get coverage. Let me know if you want to chat more about the surgery. I visit Milwaukee often and will actually be there next weekend! How awesome to see someone from my neck of the woods!

This isn't going to help much, but I am just a full-time college student. Since I am under 22 and still in school, I am still covered under my father's insurance. He is a coal miner with Accordia and they eventually covered the surgery. Good Luck! Amber Dawn

Hey Thanks for repying to my question. That is an awesome idea to get the surgery through your parents insurance.. but thats not an option for me since i got a diff last name from my real dad and its mess legally. Thanks for the help though. Congratulations to your successful surgery.. good luck ~nikki~

I work for MBNA, soon to be Bank ofAmerica... I pay about 35 bucks every two weeks for my insurance. I don't have to pay at all for vison and its like 3 bucks a week for dental. So I make out really well. I would suggest getting a job with a bank, they are notorius(sp?) for having the best insurance out there.

I work as Project manager for a large general contractor. I am lucky to have the amazing coverage that I do, I have Blue Cross Blue Sheild Personal Choice and my employer pays for everything.. Meaning I have no weekly or monthly cost taken out of my check. I didn't pay anything out of pocket for the actual surgery itself either. So I was very lucky. But like someone said above, you don't have to have a great job to get good coverage... A lot of places offer coverage to even part-time employees after a certain length of employment. The first step is to get your foot in the door and get a decent job (even if it's at Target!) and then take the next step towards getting your surgery approved. If you play your cards right there are even a lot of large companies out there who will help you pay for school through tuition reimbursment programs. One step at a time and take it day by day. You'll get there! Good luck.
